Op fails on 2 counts
1) reading the daily mail
2) posting in the wrong forum

At first I thought it was going to be another article about the 3-sigma result,

But then - I was pleased. \o/

We need to build a scientist collider so we can smash them together and determine once and for all why they stereotypically dress alike. Don't know about you but Higgs was so stereotypical in dress and his beard that it was hard to take him seriously.

On a serious note, congrats to him being able to prove his own theory in his own lifetime. Discovery aside, that's a monumental achievement.

Yes, today is definitely a good day.

The Europe finally said a definite NO to Acta AND this.. Science and Liberty have prevailed!

I'm getting all excited now! Good on the guys at CERN

edit- and it's a nice touch that Higgs is still alive to see his theory be proven. It's sad how often that doesn't happen.

Don't get your hopes up, the EU is corrupt to it's very core. ACTA won't pass today, but something similar will pass in the near future.

Not more nor less corrupted as every large political coalition, US for the first example, Russia, China, India, African coalitions, Arabian coalitions.
As long as it's about "money" there will always be corruption from the bottom to the top, the random pawn choosing to stay in his world of ignorance an reality shows just don't want to know it. This one just wants you to leave it alone and he's no concerned by politics, in fact he deeply believes he didn't contributed to that when in fact he and the millions ignorants like him are the cause of it.

Watched the live stream this morning from the beginning, cool stuff! Especially the hot chicks and the usage of Comic sans!

A great day for science!

I don't know if you ever worked with some army computer but you'd believe yourself 50 years back. The major reason being you don't want to use buggy stuff or fancy stuff for important tasks, you want to use solid stuff that works and has no problems.
Then figure out when you change something you're talking about trillions of $ in hardware/software personnel learning, deal with new bugs etc etc.

Did you even knew Internet concept is a old research who comes from CERN? -no you don't Lol

About the hot chicks, well, I know a few working at CERN being my clients, and agree they didn't choose the hottest for that presentation Lol

Well yeah, but they're only at level 4 of being sure.
They will only be really, really happy when they're at level 7 of data certainty.

What??? No black hole??

Yes, I did. Actually I've been working at DESY Hamburg a few years back and am therefore not a stranger to the subject. In addition to that, I was honest in the 'great day' remark - sorry to have given you a false impression by that hot chick pic Blink

So if I have fewer H-B particles in me, I'll be lighter?

WTS H-B particles as part of a weight-loss process...

In addition, what happens to the Large Handheld Collander now they've found H-B? 36km underground fairground ride?

Yes, that would be a Nobel in itself, but I'm poor.

The Higgs field is like an invisible syrup that extends across the whole universe and slows everything down, and Higgs bosons are like little globs of the syrup that cause everything to stick together.

They still need to work out the exact properties of the HB.

And there are other non-Higgs experiments happening at the LHC, mainly concerned with supersymmetry and which could explain dark matter.

There are electrons, protons, neutrons, and many other combining blocks of the universe. The theory of how everything comes to combine together is called the Standard Model. However, they had one field called the Higgs field, with particles called the Higgs-boson particle that causes everything to gain mass and combine together, essentially acting as a glue on the atomic level.

Without the Higgs field or the Higgs-boson particle, we would not be "together". An unimaginably infinite number of atoms would simply be moving throughout the universe, never combining to anything and thus none of us would be formed.

The guy who described the Higgs field as a wall of syrup is really the best way to explain it...
