soooo, it was brought to my attention a few days ago that one of the community events (of which there arent enough of anymore) that CCP held a while back was... (a dark and stormy night)

the serpentis stole a titan from gallente federation. capsuleers were asked to help destroy it before it escaped, such technology could not be allowed to fall into the hands of the criminal scum... but alas, the capsuleers failed and the titan escaped.

where is this titan, and more importantly, why did CCP stop doing the big community events??? theyve always gone over well, i for one miss them.

anyone else remember this event, or agree that you want community events back?

EDIT: oh and in case noone believes me... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C9_n8T2Mv-o

"a while back" = "in 2006"

there were a lot of live events last year, but then dropbear got laid off.

i know this one was a long while ago, but i didnt realize just how long till i found the video lol

i didnt realize he got laid off. that explains it then. i had a sabbatical around that time it seems. sucks tho i really enjoyed the live events. they added a nice dynamic to the universe and made it feel like i was playing in more than just a big server bank.

whyd they tank him do you know?

They also had those RPtastic CCP run Incursions leading up to the Incursion expansion

Now, more than ever, we need a dislike button.

CCP Dropbear wasn't laid off. I believe he resigned because of his marriage and etc.

As to address OP's comment, there are still several Live Events going on, although they are temporarily "halted" due to other constraints. One of the current-on-going "monumental Live Event" that has hundreds of capsuleers participating is Arek'Jaalan. I urge you to check it out!

There are also other Live Events associated with Sansha incursions where actual Devs (in purple texts) play Sansha Slaves leading the fleet (and sometimes, Admirals/Generals from four factions).

As for the Serpentis Titan, I believe he was able to escape unscathed with the titan. You are absolutely right that some kind of closure would be nice.

Just to be more specific, "the latest Live Event" occurred with the introduction of Crucible when the Arek'Jaalan as a whole, successfully completed a "capsuleer-funded research station" in Eram, that houses all Arek'Jaalan research. The site is quite spectacular. I insist you check it out!

I took a look at the Arek'Jaalan project a while back, but it didnt catch my interest much. Ive spent a LOT of time in W-space and i already know the whole story of the sleepers etc. I never gave it a second look after it started tho. I had no idea they made a research outpost ill have to check it out.

I thought if you are familiar with W-Space, you would be more interested in the Arek'Jaaan Project! There are several Live Events associated with the W-Space/Arek'Jaalan as well. One good example is the disappearance of Liandra Burreau, a Gallente researcher, during her research at W-Space and the reappearance of her spaceships (w/o the researcher).

Although I am highly skeptical, there is also the appearance of so-called "Infomorph" with W-Space as its origin.

There is so much to this Project than just "studying W-Space and Sleepers!"

im def gonna have to give it a second look, im intrigued.

as far as the sleepers goes. devs mentioned when they released W-space that the sleeper sights would have clues in it that reveal their history. my friend and i have put together the entire story, granted at a fairly high level, but idk how i would contribute it or if someone else has figured it out already, afterall its been out for nearly 2 years?

whats infomorph?

There is a mailing list for Arek'Jaalan Project: Arek'Jaalan
You can use those mailing list to let the members know of your finding. Also you will note from looking at the Arek'Jaalan Portal, that there are several divisions that are in charge of different fields of studies. You can contact the appropriate Leads to let them know as well first!

As mentioned before, I've been very skeptical of this so called "Awakend Infomorph," but many believe that it is true (I seriously think it was a small, but largely dramatized prank by someone). You can decide for yourself.

There used to be a team dedicated to the life events, they fit into a bigger storyline or where just "one offs"

One of the biggest arcs was the Jove who seemed to be very active and then kinda tapered off. There was the aurora team but that is ages and ages ago.

Dropbear was one of the leads in the reboot of this tradition, sadly he got married and moved to australia, why anyone would want to live in that infernal, bug and other creatures infested island instead of nice clean iceland boggles the mind, but there you go.

The live events team was taken over though, but since they have a bigger workload now I don't know what will be its immediate future.

I hope that they'll try and grow the live events into something bigger again. I tried to follow the jalaan project but that was way to intense for me :).

For instance there was (a while back) a fleet of the khanid kingdom bearing the king to Amarr prime to meet with the empress, it was in the news, but no actual fleet of ships was seen moving. That was a missed chance to do something nice and fluffy that players could participate on. (protecting the fleet or attacking, gaping at its splendor).

OoOoo I thought I familiarized myself with pretty much all the past Live Events and time and time again, I find something new. Do you have any specific link to this event? Seems very interesting.

I know CCP Unifex "outranks" CCP Goliath, but there must be some truth to his statement regarding Live Events?

"Some of you may have met me during the Live Events roundtable at Fanfest. I along with other devs (Abraxas, Affinity, Gnauton, Navigator to name a few) have taken up the mantle of live events. We were reponsible for the Dev Caravans that occurred over Christmas as well as the Scavenger Hunt player event at Fanfest. During the roundtable the Arek'Jaalan Project was mentioned by a few players. It is on our list of "cool things we want to get involved in" which is rather extensive following said roundtable. We are currently working on our Next Big Thing and so I will not give specific dates, times or topics at the moment, but rest assured that Live Events are going nowhere and we are committed to making some awesome memories for you all"

Perhaps we can still "pray and hope?"

I can't believe they made the Solteur class Titan and never used it again for anything at all. Not even landmarks.
