There is a serious side to this concerning socket close errors and I'm not the only one suffering from them (and my dog) :-

Some players suspect the lack of player interaction(keyboard or mouse) with Eve client is causing the problem whereas a few weeks ago one could leave the computer to go for a cuppa etc or to walk the dog.

Yeah I get those too. And I'm running 3 clients... one would crap-out while the others are still ok. It's weird.

We should coin a term for getting this socket errors.... how about:

Pilot one: "Dude! you dissapear in mid mid-flight"
Pilot Two: "yeah, I got socketed".

"Socketed", thank you, a really catchy term and its now my curse word for when it happens.

You're not even supposed to walk your dog while mining. If you really need to go walk the dog (or go AFK for any other reason), learn to dock up. I sincerely hope someone will find you and gank you while you're out walking the dog.

Now with these Socket Closed errors I'm having to pay more attention and even use a mouse-mover app to try and keep the Socket Closed errors away.

I hope you're trolling... Because I'm pretty sure that counts as automated play, while afk... Perhaps I'm wrong.
Not if that app is a Rube Goldberg machine.

So he would learn not to go AFK in space the hard way. Why else?

I believe the OP is missing one very easy way to prevent these socket errors from interfering with mining: actually be present at the computer while mining.

I have never seen a "socket error" in the two years I have played this game.

FT Diomedes: "Reaver, sometimes I wonder what you are thinking when you sit down to post."

Frostys Virpio: "We have to give it to him that he does put more effort than the vast majority in his idea but damn does it sometime come out of nowhere."

the socket errors seem to have no relation to keyboard or mouse activity, have had it happen to me while i was chatting in local.. maybe that doesnt count?Ugh

Its really tough these days being a miner because until a week or so ago I could set up mining plus defense drones then go away for a while and walk my dog.

Not sure if this is really intended.

This same troll could have been written from the point of view of an AFK Cloaker. And the mouse app in the story could be changed with some mechanical device like:

"I usually keep an old fan on the PC desk, next to the mouse. The fan vibrates and moves the mouse a few pixels, keeping the system from going into sleep mode"

Or go overboard like:

"Trying to keep the socket errors at bay in an EULA compliant way, I move out of my apartment and I now live next to the train tracks. I AFK Cloak and walk the dog during amtrak's busy times. The trains going in and out make the whole place shake, moving the mouse a bit and keeping the connection open."

Is still a good troll tho. I like the part of the dog making a petition.

I hate to sound like Rodney King's 'can't we all just get along'..........but we definitely need more hysterical Forum Poasting like this.
