Can you link any examples of this "unconcious racism" from the front page? Or are we talking about threads posted before CCP had a talk about the word "Jew" and it's use? Because we've already gone over this.

It is due to post like yours that CCP needs to put 'that' word on the filter list. Even though you use it 'in context' it is still a derogatory word that should not be on these forums.

So, I should be censored for saying that my Grandmother was a Jew. Right.

I still don't like you.

You can't just get up and censor the word Jew since it's not derogatory in many contexts. That would be like censoring the word black.

Censorship isn't and never should be a tool to solve problems such as racism. If people cannot be civil with words then let them pay the price and think about what theyve done. Preventing them from making the mistake in the first place doesnt teach them anything.

I believe you mean The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn.

But also, at the same time, the n-word - which ironicly now is considered 'bad' - was just used as a definition. Not to describe anyone in a negative sense, just pointing out to what group of people someone might belong to. As we like to box people in by political, religious or other interests.

This is simply incorrect. The neutral term was negro. Notice, you never see black authors of the same period refer to themselves as a n-gger.

Twain's frequent use of the word was meant to make the audience uncomfortable and point out the ubiquitous of racism in that setting.

There are more nations than the USA. You ever thought what that term meant internationally? In most of Africa and mainland Europe variations of the negro-word was used as identifying people as dark skin, and was used by black africans themselves as well. What the african-americans and white americans did with the word in a narrow timeframe before-/after is just a historic note, but insignificant (in this regard).

It didn't become synonymous with anything negative until the race debate hated up half a century ago in the USA, and unfortunately it became politically incorrect to use variations of that term even here in Europe. We still don't really understand why, as it never meant anything negative over here, and a big portion of our nations never did get involved in the slave trade either (even tho we had the worst culprits too!).

Let's see:
* Irrelevant to EVE
* Discussing moderation (at least forum related rules)
* Topic that is definate to go places

Hmm, I won't bet against you. Either case, it's a nice subject for discussion. And I'm still curious what CCP founds their censorship on, I mean they still don't even allow us to post the name of the player that ousted T20.

I know certain countries (like the USA) have that kind of internal censorship in their companies (and in politics/military), but where I come from, you'd be called a fascist if you did, and be likened with nazis, Mussolini, Lenin, Stalin, Franco, or similar. P

(take that with a pinch of salt, different cultures as we all come from etc, for all I know it could normal in Iceland with censorship, I mean, it is even in big nations like the USA, Russia, China etc)

You do know what it means when you 'assume' something, don't you ?

Racism depicted in classic fiction of it's time is a different can of worms than spewing such nonsense in a Public Forum, and the OP hints at nothing of the sort.

Get out with your bad attitude, or take a class in how to use your brain to argue, not assigning behaviors that are actually irrelevant to the topic at hand.

May I also suggest that you take your bad attitude toward anyone who disagree's with you elsewhere. This forum deserves better.

It's not the words it's the context that these are used in. Censoring the words is over the top but locking or deleting an idiotic post I'm good with. There was a recent thread with the Jewbal thing and some idiot used the words "final solution" in the title since liquidating people systematically is just so damn funny. Overall I'm glad they clamped down on these forums.
