How do you get on the trail to paying for the game, in the game?

So now that I'm off to do my own thing for a bit I was wondering, what's a good way to go if you're going to fund the game with ISK?

I know there's some guides out there, but I'd like to get some opinions here :D

Basically, just find some way to make about 500 mil ISK every month. And some more, in case you want to actually play EVE and not just grind for PLEX. Roll

Your question is basically "how to make ISK", and there have been some discussions about it recently so browse back this forum.

Also I would suggest not thinking about that in the beginning. Making 500 mil ISK per month will not be easy for new player and it will take time to get there. But once you notice that you can make more ISK than you actually use ingame, you can consider using it to pay for EVE.

e.g. When I started making billions per month in trading, it was easy decision to pay my account(s) with PLEX. Cool

^ What he said.

I do suggest not to fall for the common trap of grinding ISK to play.

It will end that you grind ISK for the entire month, just so you can start it all over again the next month.

I have multiple accounts, all in general paid with RL money, only when I find out I made enough profit on my accounts I take the ISK and pay for 1 (or more) with ingame money. But play-2-pay isn't my priority, it's a bonus.

Specially if you (referring to your other thread) like to PvP I wouldn't care to start with about paying with in game money. At the start you will loose ships and need them replaced, so you could better invest ISK to fund your gameplay then use ISK to fund the game and don't play it in the way you have fun.

do what interests you and eventually the plex money will come. there are lots who play that don't want to worry about isk/hour at all and always pay their subs with $, nothing wrong with that at all - it all comes down to : do you have free time IRL to "work" on eve online? or do you work enough IRL that you don't have free time to "work" on eve, thus paying the subs is no problem.

For most people, it's much easier to make $15/month IRL and pay that way than to make 500 mil ISK/month and pay that way. I strongly recommend just paying with RL money.

Otherwise, you will need to learn how to handle your way around Eve's markets and moneymaking activities quite quickly. Good luck!

It will also become easier to make that 500mil in a few months vs your first few weeks. It is just a matter of being able to take care of higher level NPCs accessing more valuable sites for profit or learning whatever trade you need to save yourself isk.

I could have plexed myself by my second month. Now, it is fairly easy for me to make that plex money in the normal course of my play. However, I'm not interested in plexing my accounts and I do not. I've seen many new players try to afford a plex in the first month. It seems very stressful.

ISK will come to you.

Get a second account or a friend to sit in a ship scanning the mods & cargo of ships passing through, gank them with your Tornado when you find a profitable target. You can do this with about 5 weeks of training.

This:

You can make $15 is three hours or less in real life. Will take you about 5 hours of grinding in EVE to make a PLEX in the best areas. RL work is more fun that ISK grinding in EVE. Have fun at work, pay for EVE, play EVE instead of grinding EVE.

I feel sorry for anyone that has to work 3 hours to make :15bux:

Like most of the people above me said:

1.) Don't make it a primary goal of yours. It will suck to grind for ISK to buy the month of game time, and then grind again for the next month.

2.) You can make a lot of money in low/null sec through exploration/ratting/missions/PI.
2a.) Find a corp if you want to do that.

3.) Play for fun. Not for game time. I like doing L3 missions in Hi-sec and grinding standings. It doesn't make a lot of money, but I really like earning the 'trust' of different factions

Indeed, find a part of the game that you enjoy doing that actually generates isk and eventually you will be making enough to buy plex to play.

for me it is the market that I enjoy. The buying, selling, manipulating and speculating all add up for some good times. Hands down it is the most profitable part of the game in my opinion. Some traders can make enough to pay for plex on the first day of the monthly subscription.

As everyone else has mentioned:

Play the game for enjoyment. Eventually, you may be able to pay some/all of your sub from PLEX.

Im curious about how to do this as well, as I dont use credit cards at all. So other than the grind, is there sub cards I can buy at a game store or any other option?

There a no game cards you can buy in a store

There are ETC (EVE time code) sellers online
An ETC is basically 60 days of game time (2 x PLEX).

Keep in mind to only buy ETC from legit sites or else CCP sees it as RMT and the ISK you could have earned from it is taken from your wallet (even if it's no longer in it - negative wallet is the end result) or can even ban you for it.

Here is a list of official ETC resellers.
Most accept PayPal or other forms of payment other then credit cards.
I pay for game time using PayPal that is linked to my bank account as I don't own a credit card.

What J'Poll said is not entirely true. There is a physical card that you can get from the EVE Store. But beyond that I don't think you can get it at any other types of stores. Basically this is a ETC which J'Poll explained nicely above.

Using one of the authorized re sellers would be your next best bet.

By Eve store, Im assuming you mean online. If so, that still leaves my issue of not using credit cards. Im in a weird position because I squirrel my money away under my mattress. So no bank accounts, no credit cards etc. One way or another, I will be subbing to this game! I may have my fiancee use her card....i give her nuff money lol
