1. If I am a Caldari character, can i join Amarr, Gallente or Minmatar FW corp.

2. If I join a FW corp, how bad is the standing drops vs opposing factions.

3. When i see progress status in Caldari Militia Office, i see Caldari winning big time, I don't want to join an uneven fights. Are the progress bars representative of overall situation?

Assuming you haven't tanked your standings with them, yes, you're free to join whichever militia you like.

If you only kill players and run defensive plexes/offensive ones while speed tanking, then not too bad. The real drop comes from killing the enemy NPCs in missions and while doing offensive plexes.

Not really. Like in the Minmatar/Amarr war, the Minmatar progress greatly outweighs the Amarr one, however as a Minmatar pilot i still find plenty of fights. Both even and uneven, as is to be expected. What that's an indicator of is the amount of systems captured/upgraded, the biggest impact it has on pvp though, is the number of systems that you can find enemies doing plexes/plex yourself in.

I would disagree about the significance of the territory control bar. It is absolutely useless, and only serves to paint a picture of the textbook "tragedy of the commons" case that it is suffering from.

Yes, just go to a station in the Faction that you want to join, and enlist in the militia there.

If you join the Gallente Militia, then the Caldari Navy NPCs will shoot at you everytime you enter Caldari space. This is true for all other militias too of course. When you quit the militia, the Navy NPCs will probably stop chasing you.

As you do militia faction war missions, your standings will drop to 'bad' or even 'terrible'. If they are terrible, the Navy NPC rats will spawn and attack you everytime you enter enemy space.

You can grind your standings back up, but it's a pain.

The progress bars are a new thing. I think they are representative of the amount of 'faction deadspace complexes' which have been captured.

Faction war has two elements, the PVE part of it and the PVP. To capture a system for your side, you have to scan out a deadspace complex full of NPC Navy enemies, kill the enemies, and circle a timer. During this time, any player can jump into your plex and try to kill your ship. This includes not only enemy players, but also pirates.

ideally, the deadspace complexes are a filtering mechanism created to try and get 'even fights'. Frigate vs. Frigate, cruiser vs. cruiser, etc. It happens sometimes, although the fighting can be 'blobby' (big gangs) in plexes sometimes too.

Good fights in Faction war happen on gates and stations as well.
