2 Professions at the same time ?

Hi!
I am a new player to Eve and wanted to ask you a few questions before i make a mistake.
Started a 14 day trial account, liked it and subscribed since i liked the complexity of the game very much. Created a caldari characted read a few guides about mining and now i am in a bantam , and training the required skills for minmatar cargo ship ( forgot its name sorry).
I want a miner / producter type of character mainly but also want to get involved in the pvp. So my plan is to get into a mining cruiser doing jet can mining for ISK and spending it for cheap frigate pvp. Then upgrade to a better mining ship and upgrading my pvp ship also.
my question is, is it a logical choice to train for two aspects of the game at the same time ?

Sure. Particularly if you don't consider them as "professions." Cool

And don't rush into Cruisers. Train Mining to IV. That will allow you to put Mining IIs on the Bantam. That can be very effective for you for a while. Decide what frigate you want to use to PVP. Get *very good* at flying that frigate before moving into a cruiser.

I already got mining at IV and using t2 mining lasers. ( Spent almost all the money i got from tutorial missions for them :S) Training caldari frigate lvl4 now.
I cant still decide f i should just train for caldari cargo ships and train for pvp or train for minmatar cargo ships and use the already trained minmatar frigate skills for pvp purposes.

Well, the Mammoth is a nice industrial, and the Rifter is a great PVP ship. So if you already have Minmatar Frigate trained, I think you know your answer.

Do you recommend factional warfare for a young character?. It seems fun but i didnt read much about it and all i know is you become hostile with the opposing faction. Dont want to get shot in a bantam Big smile

Yes it is completely possible, you can do as much as you like with just one character. For instance, I can do exploration, missions, PvP, mining, manufacturing, invention, T2 production, and a whole bunch of other things all on this one character. There's no limit to what you can do (other than the fact that you will always need an alt/friend to move a capital ship around).

That said, you're better off focusing in one or two areas to begin with. Work on skilling up to be able to do something well enough to have a decent income stream before trying to branch out too much. Branching out dilutes your skill points and can end up with you as a jack of all trades, master of none if you start branching out before you can sustain yourself.

The rule of thumb I use is that a good time to branch out is when you're either bored with what you're doing or atleast confident enough in what you're doing to know that you have a solid grasp and want to start mastering more stuff too.

FW is fantastic for young players...However, there are sometimes hostiles in even hisec. Mining while in FW could work as long as you watch local chat for hostile militia members (They show up with an orange star next to their name) and mine in an out-of-the-way system.

What a lot of people do is use their alts to specialize.

EvE gives you three character slots. Use up all three. Decide that one character will be a fighter/ missioner, one will be a miner/ manufacturer, and one will be a hauler/ trader.

These skills/ careers seem to pair up well with one another. A combat pilot can also do missions really well, a miner makes the minerals used for manufacturing, etc.

A hauler alt is very useful to have.

Train a separate alt to fly a Mammoth (that's the minmatar hauler), and keep them in the NPC corp. That way, they can move all your stuff around for you even if you are in a player corporation that is war decced. If you are hauling your own stuff and your corp is ever war decced, you have to leave all your industrial ships docked or they become big ISK pinatas.

Trading skills and hauling go well together too, so it's handy to keep your hauler parked in or near a trade hub to check on prices.

The disadvantage with this method is that you have to stop training on one character, if you only have one account. However it's not as though you are losing time. It's more efficient to have alts as specialists instead of all skills on one character, though that is arguable.
