Returning to L4's for some ISK - should I ditch the Tengu?

Hi,

Simple question, I'm returning to some missioning shortly to make some ISK.

I have a fairly decent Tengu fit somewhere (need to track it down). Is it still the best way to go for L4's or should I be considering something else?

I am level 5 training in most of the required skills.

I was thinking about putting time into Marauders............

I have flown Mauraders (Vargur), Machariel and a Tengu.

Overall, I consider the Tengu the best all-around mission running ship for Level 4's. Some missions can be completed faster with a Maurader or Machariel; however, some missions take longer with those types of ships.

Imo, stick with the Tengu.

tengu is perfectly fine, in gurista and serpentis space at least.

I should buy an Ishtar.

I love the nightmare (paladin too).

tengu is nice, but when you have a ton of rats to kill and are used to doing 1k+ turret dps, it feels so slow.

that said there are some missions where the tengu is just awesome for blitzing like worlds collide.

If you're talking about high-sec, Tengu is adequate. Mach/Vargur are better. Golem isn't worth it. For blitzing, MWD Mach is probably the best way to go.

Pon Farr Memorial: once every 7 years, all the carebears in high-sec must PvP or they will be temp-banned.

I have done a fair amount of playing around lately and what I have found is nothing beats EM weak rats like the NM with beams. Everything else the Tengu has performed the best. A mach is good, but by the time you get into decent range the tengu will have beaten you to the punch. A golem does not shine with cruise missiles and has a range problem with torps. Haven't tried the other marauders tbh but on paper the amarr marauder will not beat the NM, which shines as it is shield tanked so you can fit all the lows to help with DPS and it gets a tracking bonus. Still need to try the CNR as that seems a popular choice. The domi also works OK but it means yoyu need to be stationary to reap the benefits of T2 sentries with the new damage mods.
I think the marauders are good if you plan to salvage while you shoot. So I guess it depends on your play style.

Keep your Tengu. Other than being probably the best all-around PvE ship in the game (reasonable minds may differ on this point)...the ability to select any damage type means your Tengu can operate/contribute no matter what content you are doing.

I'd say try the Tengu, but with HAMs instead of HMLs. There is a big DPS increase and if you have an AB or MWD on it, then HAMs should be viable. You should get 2-300 more DPS i think?

I'm not sure HAM vs. HML will give you THAT much more DPS, but you're certain to get over 100, perhaps scraping near 200. I could be wrong through.

In any event, with the right tank mods + prop, HAMs are the way to go for missions in a Tengu - whether blizting or clearing.

To blitz a mission you warp in, shoot the bare minimum, usually draw room aggro, then warp out. HML will hit at over 115km, a ham with long range ammo maybe 40km. I seriously doubt you will blitz missions quicker than I will in a HAM tengu. You will need to go in close, get webbed, get scrammed, etc before you even get near the mission completion trigger. I will be aligning back to gate or station very far away from the incoming damage, neuting, scramming, webbing.
Yes some missions have gates.. but once you in the final room, same principle applies.

The short of it is, they are all great ships for missions, it really comes down to what you enjoy flying the most when I mission i rather sit my butt in a golem, something about the ship I just love as I shoot and salvage away. But there is not a hudge diffrence between them really for mission times over all, over 20 or 30 different missions it will work out to about the same... THOUGH what you could do since you have the T trained up train for a golem or what ever other one you want to fly and you can easily jump between the ships where you choose to mission

THanks for all the replies!

I'll stick with the Tengu in that case. I don't have points in Marauders just yet and nor do I have the ISK to fit one, so that will have to wait (if ever).

Almost all my level 4 experience is with Raven/CNR and if you have the skills to fly one well you can fit a Cruise CNR to blitz lvl4s for 1b ISK and it would work well with a Tengu.

Depending on the mission you take one of the ships will be well suited to the mission. Tengu is faster for missions with a lot of moving around/gates and CNR is faster at missions with less movement and more Battleships.

Ultimately, you want a collection of ships that are suited to the mission you are running. A shuttle or fast frigate for Recon 1/2 for example.

I like the CNR but also have a Tengu which I use for some missions.

IMO, Tengu is fine for all lvl 4's. It is more of a personal preference as to which one you like.
