Why a PLEX is 33% more expensive than one month of subscription?

Specifically, PLEXes can be bought by 19.95 €, whereas one month of subscription is worth 14.95€. I thik that explains a lot of things, like who decided the price of "micro" transactions in EVE...

But the question is, why is it more expensive to "buy" one month of gameplay than to actually subscribe for a month? And not just a bit more expensive, but a whoping 33% more expensive...?

Would be interesting to get some blue tag for this.

Simple, because paying for one month can only be redeemed as one month game time while a PLEX can be traded in game making it more valuable. Now why is the difference that big? well , simple, because people are willing to pay that to get extra in game money.

It's like asking why Mac's are so expensive, it's because people are willing to pay that price.

I think because a plex can be turned into isk and you monthly subscription can not.

Unless you by the online game card and that can be traded on the forums.

I usually think it like this:
- If someone buys daily newspaper from some local store it will cost for example 5€.
- If someone becomes subscriber of that magazine, he always get better deal.

Get classic forum style - custom videos to captains quarters screen

CCP would prefer the regular business of a subscription over pay as you go?

I can't say why it costs more in Europe, But the reason it costs more than a regular monthly fee is because it can be used to make a trial account a full account so the extra money is going toward the activation fee we all pay when we go to a full account. Unless CCP wants to make a second type of plex just for those that already have full accounts we're kind of burnt.

Hmm Civilian PLEX (New Account Plex), Tech 1 Plex (Regular Plex), and Tech 2 Plex (Special Plex with Aurum bonus). My shear genius is inconceivable! :-)

Its the "CCP is getting in on the RMT market so maybe we can legally sue illegal RMTers or at least send them a cease and decist on the grounds that theyre competing against us in our own product" tax

"Is it fair that CCP can get away with..." :: checks ownership on the box ::

Yes

If you buy single PLEX it is 19.95, but if you buy 2 or more at once, it is only 17.50 per PLEX. Still more than subscription but then PLEX has other uses (i.e. can be sold for ISK)

Also prices in euros are higher than dollar prices because CCP must add VAT to prices when selling to EU residents.
