EVE General Discussion

A lot of us here are in the same spaceboat drifting through space. Full/Part Time Job, Friends & Family, & maybe a significant other yammering on about the dishes that have piled up. I've recently left a corp because I couldn't find the time to actively participate. Schedules wouldn't line up. I'm only available 3-4 hours a day outside of work and never when we were running ops. And I'm certainly not consistent about that small portion of time with all that comes up unexpectedly.

So I'm considering my options. How do you all make it work. I'm sure there are many busier than I am who still manage to make more time for Eve but I can't fathom how. How many hours do you spend in Eve in a week and do you end up running into the same scheduling problems?

I tend to find understanding corporations/guilds in any game I play that also consists of like-minded people without enough time to play several hours every day.

I stopped wasting my time through sleeping years ago. This really benefit me when I started playing EVE.

12 hours a day for RL, 11 hours for EVE, one hour for sleep (if you ever get a headache or hungover). After CCP cut the downtime by 50%, my day got about 30 minutes longer, allowing me to spend more time for RL or EVE.

Sleep is one of the most overrated things and one of the biggest time wasters. I wish there was no downtime so I didn't waste any time at all.

It IS a fun game and I wish I had more time to spend on it. What bugs me is that I used to have the kind of time a few years ago but the older I get the more solidified my schedule is. I think Kell has a good idea with the alcohol, though. I'm certain loosening up would solve that problem. I'd cut into sleep like Amsterdam but I already lose out enough on that already. Wow, 1 hour a night...

I guess the first step would be as CCP Wrangler says and find those like-minded people with the most similar schedules. I just hope we're not all so inconsistent that no one is ever on. Ah well, thanks for the suggestions

you could become a stimulus junkie.... then you wouldn't need to sleep at all. just ask any teenage girl that is cramming for her final exams for the number of her local stim dealer.

I've not played the game for several weeks.

Just don't have the time of late, plus I'm going to be selling this rig next month to make way for building a new one for Crimbo, so I very soon will not even have a PC.

There have been times where I went without playing for weeks on end. I've been involved in many rush projects over the course of the summer and barely had enough time to enjoy the weather let alone a game of spaceship pew pew. I'm likely spread too thin with my endeavors. At the end of the day you need money in your pockets and debts take the flavor out of relaxation.

I can't even imagine playing with managing multiple accounts. I can hardly take time to appreciate the one I've got. If I gave up seeing my family, my girl, get 4 hours of sleep every night, and resign myself to a humbling budget I probably could get a whole lot out of it. I'm sure I'd have a great time too.

I dropped from 4 accounts to 2 since most were just training and not doing anything. I keep tabs while I'm at work since I work at home and can use EVE as a CPU hungry chat app. My corporation is just casual pilots doing what they want and use the corp for mostly social reasons plus sharing some corp assets.

Basically, I've given up doing the null sec alliance thing and just go exploring and doing some manufacturing when I do find the time to actually undock. There is plenty of mostly solo activities you can do plus you can jump into an Incursion fleet when the mood hits you.

I go for months without doing little more than updating the skill queue at times. That's just the way it is. The only long sessions I ever did - more than one hour - in the last year or so were for the live event incursions.

However trolling the forums is something I do often.

Well I enjoy some of the things I do in RL. Though by its nature its not particularly or consistently lucrative. And I'm afraid I've grown rather attached to RL. I feel there may be a way that my Eve experiences compliment my RL lifestyle just beyond being casual, though I admire your commitment to doing what you love, Abrazzar. I know I can't fully commit myself to a single game, no matter how intensive/immersive/engaging. At some point I want to advance in my career/trade and still participate in the world at large. Essentially level up in RL. But Eve is my relaxant, it's my kicking off the shoes and putting on the slippers, so eventually I'll need my fix.

Somewhere along the lines there will be a trade off. One or the other based on what I feel is most important to me. That or I just combine the two in some mutant space fusion.
