why cant i just have one stack. i have so much crap in eve, yet if god forbid some of this crap becomes unstacked, i must therefor fly to said items's's's's exact location (a billion jumps) so i can then click and drag 1 Flycatcher on top of 2 Flycatchers so Eve will tell me I have 3 Flycatchers?!?!?
WHY^10

EDIT:

And for all you pseudointellectuals out there here is the overly contrived version...

In general stacking needs work.

The whole process of repackaging, splitting and stacking is one of the most tedious and redundant inhibitors of fluent gameplay immersion. If its not damaged, why not automatically repackage? Better yet, throw out stacking/repackaging and simply create a 'singleton' label that will prevent items from being sold or automatically stacked until the item is repaired.

This label can also be a helpful reminder when players look at the fitting window, and notice that they forgot to repair after their last battle and some things are still damaged.

EDIT2:
tl;dr

  • there should be a label that indicates "singletons" (assembled, damaged, bpc, bpo, etc.)

  • It can be simply different colored text, or a visual cue a la Tech 3 items

  • all other items (non singletons) should be automatically stacked when transferred or generated in a single location

  • an option to use the old way of stacking crap randomly just because everyones happy cuz options yo...

Indeed. I find it strange you cannot stack items remotely, but you can repackage stuff from the other side of the galaxy P

You can trash all but one stack remotely. Then you will have no more separate stacks.

I do agree you should be able to remote stack.

However your method of delivery will most likely get this post locked.

Might I suggest you make a post in I want your little things

At least for awhile they where reading that thread, not sure about now.
But you odds are a lot better by posting there then what ever you where trying to do here.

Someone remove the mirror from his CQ before he starts cutting himself...

But yeah, that'd sure as hell be a nice feature to have.

Assembled items ('singletons') have metadata associated with them, such as name, damage, efficiency, and can be the parent locations for other items.

Assembled items, damaged items, singletons are all fine. Whatever you want to call them or how you organize them is another topic. I have issues with the counterparts of those, or the 'packaged' items. Having a stack system within a solitary inventory location (and branched hierarchies of other designated containers) is of little or no use. Its overly complex and it causes more headaches than little window bugs or ui glitches.

This doesn't explain why bpc can't be stack. It's another painful annoying little thing when you have hundreds of bpc.

How hard it is to code change this?

CCP Explorer, having the options for each inventory location of "auto-repackage" and "auto-restack" would be nice. The auto-restack" may best be limited to only occur when you close that inventory, otherwise it would be hard to split a stack, it would just pop right back!

You got auto-restack already in one location: POS fuel bays.

It does explain it. BPCs have data attached such as ML, PL, runs remaining.

At first glance, I thought the topic's title was "i hate snacks"! Lol

Without snacks, how can online gaming keep the reputation of everyone being bloated, fat, greasy haired, stinky neckbeards with empty bags of Cheetos lying around while playing Russian Roulette forgetting which Mountain Dew bottle has the soft drink to which one was a make shift urinal...?

Can't be done. A BPC is by definition a singleton. A singleton is a unique item that is tracked individually. 2 BPCs with the same meta data are still considered to be apples and oranges as far as the database is concerned as they are unique, even though they look the same. Stacking removes all meta data (research, number of runs, etc) and would effectively turn it into a blank BPO.

Look at it this way: an assembled item is unique. It is not just a box, it is this particular box. A stack is an item type. It is a type of box that I have X number of and I am not interested which of these boxes is any particular box. I can give the singleton box a name, it can be damaged, I can put something in the box, I can upgrade the box, etc. If I would stack it with other boxes it will need to be the exact same thing as the other boxes and thus cannot have any other parameters that those other boxes do not have.

Now, if I have 2 boxes that I both give a name, they are both unique. They may look the same and behave the same, but they are still 2 separate entities; even if I give them the same name. BPCs are like this. They are unique items that simply happen to look alike, but are not the exact same thing.
