Seriously, stop it, you are embarrassing yourself sooo badly in front of me right now by claiming with such confidence that this is a “troll thread”. Conceitedness and delusion at its worst.

Okay I will give you some serious roleplaying advise.

Your character doesn't believe in cloning tech. Fine. So you don't take out clone insurance. Unfortunately for your character the concord bureau of capsuleers has a minimum standard of public health care and you get a baseline resurrection into a new clone whether you like it or not. So after you got killed you find yourself shivering in paper underwear on the main concorse of the local cloning station confused, wet, and feeling slightly humiliated.

Fortunately for you!

The cloning has imperfectly restored your memory of the events that led to your death. By consequence your last couple of days is a complete blank. Staring into the clone-shop windows at your red-eyed and shaven-headed features you become convinced that you didn't actually die at all but merely became victim of some fresher's prank at the university of caille where they stole your clothes and shaved your head and dumped you on a lonely space station.

That must be it!

There you go, all ennui erased and motivation restored.

That'll be 1m isk please for my professional consultancy on your self esteem problem.

The True Knowledge is that nothing matters that does not matter to you, might does make right and power makes freedom

Here's the thing: you've got to understand and accept that the pirates wandering through low-sec and null-sec are not gentlemen of fortune in the Long John Silver/Errol Flynn mold. They're cruel, sadistic, opportunistic sociopaths who will be indifferent to pleas for mercy on a good day. Think more like the modern pirates preying off the African coasts. Anything to them is a potential score; they'll burn down anything down to a shuttlecraft that crosses their guns. And for all they knew, that Imicus might have been holding a billion ISK or more worth of loot; sometimes people will use light frigates as fast couriers to get small stuff from point A to point B. Or perhaps the Imicus might have been a scout for a rival pirate gang or a militia fleet looking to pick up some pirate scalps; it's been known to happen.

Pirate podkills happen to all of us at some point - systems like Aunenen and Rancer are notorious for pirates looking for any targets of opportunities. Sometimes you'll get ransomed - someone once demanded 75 million ISK to not blow up my pod in Rancer, which I didn't happen to have at the time.

EVE is full of sociopaths like that. It's also full of decent folk who, if you stumble into the right group, will watch your back, take you under their wings, and shepherd you through the growing pains in this merciless universe.

Who knows? Maybe sometime soon, you'll be flying an Imicus that looks like a juicy target ... only you'll have a squadron of battlecruisers standing by to warp in on you as backup and shoot the pirates' fancy ships out from under them.

It's been known to happen.

I thought you said you were looking for consolation.

OK what do you want to do about this? What limitations are you going to impose upon yourself?

Limitations? What do you mean?

Tippia wrote:

How is that asking for respect of my RPing? I was merely trying to understand what they got out of killing me. Malcanis explained that now. I never said that I was mad about them not “respecting” my choice not to use clones. This would be fucking retarded. It was the seemingly baseless and mean ambush that annoyed me.

Could you quote the relevant part? I was already familiar with that article and now rereading it I did not find any such passage either. Did I miss it or something?

Nope. Maybe that's the case in null, but in low there's plenty of gentlepirates.

If you did the tutorials that started inside the Captain's Quarters when you created your character, you'd have seen it.

Of course, that's actually a relatively new thing for the EVE universe - back when I started that was not the case. So, IC, any characters created before Incarna technically could still have access to their original bodies.

But not anymore.

Why were you using a gallente ship if roleplaying as a member of amarr royalty

That comparison was, at best, astonishingly uninformed and at worst blatantly vile. Modern pirates in, for instance, Somalia were forced into this behavior because their only real alternative was starvation or some suicidal trip to Europe. Now, obviously that does not condone their crimes but it illustrates why comparing them to elite millionaires equipped with some of the most sophisticated technology in the entire universe who seem to be doing this sort of thing out of pure depravity is ... just plain senseless. By the way, did said pirates ever kill anyone?

Aaaanyhoot, thanks for elucidating this a bit more. Then I guess I was just unlucky to come across these people, eh?

Weaselior wrote:

I did not RP as a member of Amarr royalty, that was just a reference to their lore to point out what I am talking about by “refusing cloning technology”.

Ah, also, from an RP angle, I would happily pod any Amarr (or Caldari) pilot that hangs out in my part of space, regardless of their age. Can't have that kind of people in system, it sets a bad example. Won't somebody please think of the children?

can't decide if OP is a troll

in any case, there is a big freindly warning when you jump into lowsec. next time, you should consider reading it

everything in lowsec is a target, and everyone in local wants to kill you just because you're there. that's a good standpoint to start from.

if you don't like / can't handle that, don't go to lowsec. pretty simple really.

and.. roleplaying as an amarr who doesn't use cloning? seriously? then maybe you shouldn't be derping around pirate space carelessly.

This. Capsuleers in low and null are so reckless precisely because they know they cannot die. If you're roleplaying someone who does not have such a safety net, I'd suggest following the example of the Amarr royalty and not going places where people can kill you so easily.

You also have to remember that a lot of people in lowsec are not 'Pirates'.. Shadow Cartel (my alliance) identify ourselves as 'PVP'ers, not pirates.. meaning we basically play for the kill

don't care who are you, where you're from, what you're doing or what you want.. if we can kill you, and you're not blue to us, we will.. simply for the fun of it.

it's not being a psychopath / maladjusted.. it's playing the game, in the region of space where that gameplay is allowed

now mind you we'd prefer if you were in a battlecruiser and put up a good fight, but we'll take the imicus kill and sometimes t1 frigs drop valuable look cuz people do stupid **** like transport plex and implants in them.

we don't generally ransom, as we would prefer to have the +1 on our killboard.

Again, not RPing as an Amarr, that was just a point of reference.

I - not even a mere month in EVE - just got motherfucking podkilled for the first time by two assholes in low sec. I was traveling in an Imicus, minding my own business and merely jumping from one system to another when I was suddenly warp scrambled. I got into Local and plead for mercy but they attacked me anyway. I had no valuables on me, posed no threat and yet they murdered me.

Now, most of you will think “So what? Welcome to EVE.” and I would agree if not for the fact that I am ... or at least was roleplaying as a capsuleer who, similarly to Amarr royalty, refuses to use cloning technology. Why are there malicious people like that?

tl;dr I need some serious cheering up lest I lose all my enjoyment of EVE :(

My god. We talk about people like this on these forums all day, but to actually SEE one. It's like I just spotted big foot lol.

In all seriousness. you were in LOW SEC and don't understand why (a game built around the concept of unfairness, cheating, unhappiness, conflict and MURDER) you got MURDERED? You just made yourself the poster boy for irresponsibility.

You see, as a player, it's your responsibility to know what the game you are playing is about. EVE isn't about role playing people who don't like clones (it ain't about role-playing at all, in the traditional sense, unless the roles are "perpetrator" and "victim lol). It's about man's inhumanity to man. If what happened to you upsets you, why did you choose EVE?

Welcome to EVE btw.
