That's the general logic, it continues to happen because it must have been successful in the past.

Honestly, we are a greedy bunch and it just kills some of us to know its a scam but wonder if this happens to be true! The payoff could be huge!

You underestimate the power of greed and overestimate the capacity for reason of the average person.

Having indulged in such Market PVP on occasion, I can say the volume is not that great. You better off camping in null in a pet alliance than trying to run this for a living. Still, plenty of customers.

This is how the scam is supposed to work:

correct rules:
1. there is no limit on the number of times you can play.
2. there is no minimum amount of isk that you may send - I will double/triple any amount.

procedure:
1. someone sends me 10 isk; I send the multiplied amount back
2. that same person sends me 10mil isk
3. the end.

I make the initial broadcast in local, then regularly acknowledge in local that I've sent someone his money - whether this has happened or not. It is possible for you to make money off of me, and obviously for me to make money off of you. The best victims of this scam are those who plan to beat me at it.

These "ONLY ONCE", "MINIMUM AMOUNT" scams are degenerate forms of the true scam, plied by people who don't have the capital for the proper form of the scam, or who never understood how the scam was supposed to work, or who are thinking "if people try it must work!" and are otherwise brainlessly imitating some earlier broke/confused fellow. These scams probably mostly work on people who mistake them for the proper scam (see for instance Corina Jarr, above), and send 10mil or whatever expecting a second and possibly third round of the game.
