Yes. It's called a logon screen. If someone doesn't like the game why would they bother logging in?

Such a voting system does exist.

It's called "number of active subscriptions."

All of the responses thus far are valid.
Plus : Petitions, Forums (I mean all forums, not just this General Dissuasion forum), CSM and CSM forums especially.

Its a valid point and a good metric to work off tbh as it at least allows a comparison of activity over time.

Wether the actual total numbers are representative however I'm not so convinced of, it might be interesting to see how many of those logins might be just to turn over the skill queues however. That isn't me being cynical about the occasional reported apathy to actual "involved" play activity as it could just occur according to "normal" casual gaming needs. Since we do get peaks at major patch dates, so the overall image of EVE isnt represented fully daily of course.

Either way logging in for 5 mins or 5 hours fundamentaly shows some faith with the ongoing value with EVE.

I think a few years ago if an idea posted on the forums got a certain amount of likes it was considered... I could be just making this up though only have a vague recollection of it.

As someone who did a basic research and statistics course in school, I feel qualified in giving you advice about the validity and usefulness of online surveys.

1.0. You're in the middle of something in the game, a questionare pops up, do you:

a) Take the time out of your busy internet space schedule to answer this questionare honestly and in full.
b) Quickly answer some questions in a half arsed manner.
c) Ignore the questionare.

1.1. If you answered 'a' for the above, are you:

a) A well adjusted, sane and reasonable person who doesn't have autism and does have a social life and has known the touch of a woman
b) A spergy neckbeard virgin who does nothing but play Eve.

1.2. If you answered 'a' for the above... Really?

a) Yes really! I totally have a life! F*ck you!
b) No... No I care far too much about this game. It's destroying my life! I think I need help.

1.3 If you answered 'a' for the above... *a sincere look of pity*

a) *sob* Oh god it's true, I'm a colossal nerd. I sperg on the forums about all kinds of pointless sh*t. I have no life outside of Eve. Oh god! What am I doing with my life!? *sob*

1.3 If you answered 'a' for the above... There there, it's okay... it's okay.

---

So you see there's the danger that the results of an online survey will be skewed because only the people who are extremely satisfied or extremely dissatisfied will bother filling it in.

Also notice how my badly written questions exclude a lot of possible answers.

Basically: No. We don't need an online survey.

CCP sends periodical surveys to players, monitors the forums and works with the CSM besides getting direct feedback via the petition system.

While it's true there's no voting like that, you can vote for people in the Council of Stellar Management (CSM). That is vote for someone you think expresses your likes or dislikes with EVE.. Probably won't matter that much, but better than nothing.

CCP has said they look at what people do more than what people say. So yea, the login screen is the measure they go by.
