New ship explosions are too fast, small and short :(

Hi CCP,

i really like the work of your art team, especially the new textures and missile effects. But i really was hoping for some kind of "KAWOOOMBADDABOOMPEWPEW*-Explosion that lasts at least 5 seconds or longer with several smaller explosions and a lot more flying fireballs and debris instead of just a "BOOOM".
We are not playing a space ship game where we control little fighters, but ships that are bigger than carriers of the US Navy. The speed of the explosion is way too fast and subexplosions would make it more realistic. For frigates, fighters and maybe cruisers the explosions are ok, but not for BCs BSs and sure not for bigger stuff...

Please put some more work into the explosions before you throw them on the server! I am waiting for so long for new and finally good ship explosions and if this is the final result, i am really a bit disappointed :(.

Dev posts are welcome! :)

Here. Wing Commander 2. Realtime explosions.
Of course they are low res and not smooth,
but they are done in *realtime* and they actually look like *explosions* !

Pretty sure explosions in space would be fairly undramatic IRL, since there is no oxygen to aid the propagation of any fireballs etc. Not to mention the fact that most of the missiles, if not all, seem to be powered by solid fuel engines so no exploding fuel either.

So what?
Is your excuse for terrible sound effects in eve also "sound in space makes no sense"?
This is a video game and good looking effects are part of it like good looking explosions are part of every scifi-movie battle.

EvE has sound?

I think it looks... ok. Better than the generic blue flash we have right now, though I do agree it should look a bit more impressive for larger hulls like bs or bc

I want a explosion something like the Pepcon disaster.

I kill kittens, and puppies and bunnies. I maim toddlers and teens and then more.

I agree, but I think alot of the problem stems from what we're used to. Even heavy missiles made some noise off in the distance and torpedoes just had the most amazing resonating sound after explosion, and that shockwave! magnifico!

Dunno if we scaled it back to be more realistic but the sound was fine the old way and the explosions seem underwhelming. If we're going for realism lets remember there is no sound in space and lets start calculating in inertia in space while turning. (Let's see how far away interceptors can get before they finally start moving in the direction they turned! They might be off grid. Lol)

So close...

Maybe for a shuttle or Pod. Newbie ships should be more impressive.

Newbie ships should have Pinata effects added. Little streamers flying out in all directions and maybe firework effects. Big smile

Isn't that effect more appropriate for industrials and faction battleships?

No, they should have showers of these SadSadSadSadSad instead. And maybe fireworks too, but sad ones, like maybe half hearted or something where they just make a wet fart noise.

I'd have to turn the sound on for that.

you know i too had a problem with explosions they would never happen at the right time and when they did it was more of a mess then a explosion...

i suggest you take a blue pill next time... that seems to help...

Tie fighter were an amazing game, I've been waiting all along for a remake Cry I've also considered replaying the original but I'm afraid I would be utterly disappointed now, just as I was with the you-tube of Wing Commander, which of course was phenomenal back then..

I imagine they'll look a sight more intense, if CCP actually completes the teaser they showed of ships exploding with multiple chain-reaction style explosions. If battleships, for example, had three of those in sequence I reckon it'd look pretty 'awesome' ;)
