Hello all,

I'm a young FC with lots to learn. I have a good grasp of all ships/roles and basic fleet warfare. However i have a lot to learn about tactics and would like your input.

How would you counter the follow enemy fleets?

Drake blob + support , logi

Alpa Pest fleet + support, logi

T3 armor fleet

Hellcat fleet (arti or pulse) + logi support

Welpcane fleet + logi support

Standard Armor medium range BS fleet

Ty in advance for all your comments.

It's incredibly situational, and a lot depends on what your pilots are already skilled into and how many there are.

There're many more with simple searching, just thought these would do as an appetizer.

Why would any one help you out with this?

90% of being an FC is learning the effective fleet doctrines and figuring out how to counter.

Basically all fleets fall into one of two categories, brawlers and kiters. The art of dissimilar combat is forcing the other side to fight on your terms. Regardless of if you are the kiting side or the brawler side, it comes down to maneuvering, exploiting any mistakes on the other side and a fair bit of probing. I consider sniper ships kiters for obvious reasons even if they don't have a speed mod fitted. They kite by on grid bookmark warping instead of mwding around.

At point blank, brawlers will crush kiting ships and at range the brawlers will never catch the kiting ships. This is assuming no one makes a mistake, which does happen. In fact a mistake is how you catch the opposing fleet in such a matchup. In any case, your standard drake blob is basically a compromise of the two methods and the only one worth really discussing. They have the range of kiting ships combined with the tanks of brawlers. What they don't have is the raw dps of brawlers or the raw speed/agility of true kiting ships. As such, the counter is to get in close and nuke them if you can.

The standard medium range BS fleet is actually a brawler BS fleet. You're just taking advantage of the extended range of amarr and minmatar turrets in that case as opposed to the point blank range slugging match a mega pilot would prefer. There isn't a lick of difference between a point blank abaddon and a medium ranged one. They just load scorch instead of conflag in the latter case.

Supercaps.

Unless the enemy brings supercaps. Then the answer is more supercaps.

Reading Sun Tzu's The Art of War is a good thing to do. (Link to online version included at the bottom of the reference).

The thing to understand about SunTzu is that he was making his career as a military consultant and it made him seem smarter to write a book of clever aphorisms - which is what he did.

A better work On War (Link to online version included at the bottom of the reference) was written by Cal von Clausewitz - but it's an extensive work requiring some actual study.

Both works are of course extensively misused by people to prove whatever point they're trying to make ... so ... when someone says "According to ..." whomever ... look it up yourself rather than take their word for it.

As to the use of military history in playing computer games ... sure ... it doesn't hurt ... but you really need to understand the computer game and can get by on that. If you do understand the game - then a background in military history can give you an impression of the types of things which might translate to the games mechanics but is no easy road to victory. Someone who understands nothing about military history but understands the game better than you do - is still probably going to beat you.

All those types of fleets sounds like CTA fleets meant for SOV defence or offence.... Not exactly a beginning FC's assignment... Those type of fleets require SPECIFIC counters (for instance, a tempest fleet folds like paper when u hot drop in a bunch of falcons ("because of falcon" the shield logi) and stealth bombers... LOTS OF BOMBERS (this tactic can be used against any BS fleet really)

I am a beginning FC myself and I try to fly with those CTA fleets whenever I can for the experience.

FYI, all those fleets are not specific to any alliance. They each have specific advantages and drawbacks. Find those draw backs and EXPLOIT THE **** OUT OF IT.

SunTzu. The Art of war should be called "stating the obvious and being in the right place at the right time" Forget the logistics required.

Being a young FC requires only one thing. Dont get burned out. These game just melts through FCs. When you win you are God, when you lose you are the worst FC ever in the history of EVE. forget about those.

Drake fleets = something arti in Minnie battleship.
Supercaps = something Arti in Minnie battleships (you need a lot of minnies)

The rest....im sure you will work it out as you go along

Good luck and dont worry as for all the haters there are very few that would be an FC
I dont normally troll, but when i do i do it on General Discussion.
