Crazy Idea about ships.

I find it a little boring in the long run that the ships are so generic. I personaly want a little customization. What if CCP made it so that every time you bought a ship, Okay, it's in your hangar, but when you open it, you get to choose how it will look. Just some easy things at first. Maybe give the player a choice between three front parts, three main parts, and three back parts, and make the player really fall in love with what he has done. Maybe even change the color scheme in some way. Or not.

So, here it is again. Upon assembling your ship, you actually get tho choose how it will be assembled. Does this sound like a good idea? Some time in the future?

You can sort of do that with tech 3 subsystems, but that limits you to 4 ships in game.

You make a valid point, good Sir or Madam.

Why not the forms. I'm not talking about a major difference, just a small. And I agree with not being able to use the whole pallet of colors on the ships.

think of the load on the server, 1000 ships all with different looks... major lag fest

Did not think of it like that. Argument is valid.

Even though, I'm left wondering if it would be so hard to put your alliance and/or corp logo onto your ship...

Again, no one cares about your 2-bit corp/alliance and their logo.

Big alliances would, however, care about the impact it had on server performance while defending their POS's with huge logo's stamped on them.

Graphics have no impact on servers. It is all on client side as far as visuals go.

Ship customization? Use these funny little things called modules :P

I'm being serious, though.. People often forget about how different ships can be made with just the modules fitted, because stuff like T3 ships really overshadow that for some people.

Simple solution: any blobby engagement above the lag-producing number of differently-customized ships on grid results in auto-disappearance of customization (same trigger as time dilation perhaps?)

Otherwise, since since people are normally scattered across many instances in this most instanced of games, it shouldn't cause any problems, should it?

Personally, I don't want to see the ship anyway. I'd like a high-contrast, abstract tactical view. (If you know Homeworld - take it's tactical view mode and remove any ship models).

Actually because of guns/missiles effects and trailers, this would probably require massive data for small to useless utility/agreement/enjoyment

Ship coloring and logos are planned in the near-ish future. That's part of the reasoning behind V3ing all the ships.

Changing the model of the ship, however, probably will never happen. There's just no real justification for it. It would be a large amount of extra work to implement it, 9x as much work to add in any given ship to the game, and pretty much 0 real benefit from it.

I'd be happy with decals. I wouldn't even care that much if anyone else could see them.

If brute force isn't working, you're just not using enough.

Please Note: Any advice given comes with the caveat that nothing will be suitable for every situation.

Have you seen that new yellow mining frigate - it looks EPIC!! Also I'd demand pink being an option...

I bet you put a spoiler on your honda civic. This is just as dumb. How are we supposed to think of these ships as complex works of engineering if we can just swap out the back half for something else without any change of functionality?

I agree with the colour change and it would be nice if you could put your own customised drawings on the ship, I dont know if it will ruin the game but it's just a suggestion. :)
