The Recon or an expensive lesson why Acceleration Gates are also called Warp Gates

I run the blood raider version of this mission, and I don't blitz it. Only because I am greedy. lol. Sounds like you made a couple of mistakes on this one. This mission pumps out a lot of dps when all of the spawns are on the field. By moving towards the gate you may have put yourself in the center of all of the subsequent spawns, and caught full room aggro. Secondly you panicked, you already knew that shooting at frigs with BS class turrets was a no win situation. Angels get up close and personal so your not going to outrun them. You can only orbit and hope that you reduce incoming dps. At the same time you should have continued to direct dps on the approaching BS. Removing dps from the field is the best way of making it out of a situation you were in.

No, you can't run Recon 3 in a shuttle. Properly tanked cruiser class ship will work. A BS with a prop mod can also complete it

It's a solid L4 tactic to always put web/scramble frigs at the very top of your target list. They are the first things I take out as it's faster and safer in a turret ship to one shot them while they are on approach rather than after they have started to orbit.

When you activate an acceleration gate, it says "Warp Drive Active." To not know, it means either you're deaf or activating a gate for the first time.

Or you mute your sound because Eve is annyoing to listen to.

What's annoying about being given audible clues as to what's happening around/to you?

I'm pretty sure that I could outrun Angel battleships and BCs in a Tempest with T2 Afterburner. But I forgot to run... What? The frigs didn't web me and the whole spot was "behind" me. There was a direction free of rats and I was already aligned to that direction.

I think the main thing which caused my confusion and losing my head was the fact that I wasn't scrambled when I activated the acceleration gate. I have been scrambled later when the warp indicator reached around 74%, so just a second before I had started to warp away.

I feel you OP, lost a maelstrom to the same thing, warped in, jumped by a bunch of sniper angels and interceptors, horrible sight, how that mission works is that pirates begin popping up progressively once you reach the pocket, even if you docked and came back, they would still be spawning, unleashing a nasty surprise. In an act of revenge, I happily come on my Machariel these days and blast them up before just before each spawn wave, good isk and salvage. It is worth ignoring if you only want the LP tho.

You are a braver man than I. I do this in a passive tanked Gila with a MWD, it's one of the few times I ever take my gila out for a spin unless I feel like slowly afking a mission, slowly.

Stabber works well. Coupla Shields, MWD, Coupla ODs

Maybe my choice is a bit excessive for blitzing Recon 3/3, but I like to use my old standby, the dual-armor-rep Myrmidon with a MWD. (Dual EANMs and a DC in the lows as well.) It'll move at almost a thousand m/s, even with two nano pump rigs, and with cap rechargers in the mids and a single CCC rig, the cap will hold out more than long enough to get to the gate even with both MARs running along with the MWD.

I have not run that mission in such a long time, though when I did it, I just killed every thing in the room with a golem, no issues on the tank, and the bountes where higher up 10- 15 mil range for a little bit of work

Just do it in Staber as earlier suggested or in BS with X large shield booster (T2 version will do).

The HookBill did the trick for me.

Mid slots Fit with a small Ancillary shield booster (perfect for the occasion) MWD / hardener, first cloud hit me down to 65% shields, activated ancillary shield booster, 2nd wave hit me took me down to 10-20% shields as I activated the gate.

1/3 is easy to complete with either a twin rep armor tank or an oversized pulse shield tank.

2/3 is easy

3/3 is easily done in any battleship fitted with a 100mn MWD

yeah, I once lost an unplated ishkur in recon 3/3 once. But did anyone spot the moral of the story? its right here....

waiting until your tank is breaking/broken to release drones. Don't do that. That's the real moral of the story.

I'm using a CNR with MWD for recon 3 (tops at arround 1000 m/s).. it's the only mission my CNR goes for more than 117 m/s!

Yeah - the time to release the drones is as soon as you've got full aggro, to mop up the frigates.

In the Guristas version of Recon 1, the cruisers in the first room aren't worth the hassle unless you're flying something with serious anti-cruiser weaponry. My Mael's artillery can't track well enough to hit them - and a Maelstrom needs artillery to beat down on Guristas battleships - and they can tank a full flight of T2 medium drones. I just keep blasting at battleships with arty - a full rack of 1400s will one-shot battlecruisers - and supplement that with the T2 Hammerheads once the Hobgoblins have finished the frigates.

You lose less than a million in bounties by going through the gate without taking down the cruisers.

Yeah, the first room of recon 1/3 is a doozy if you're not flying around in a shiny mission ship.
