Scan Probe Rigs for exploration

I was thinking of doing some low, perhaps null exploration in a cruiser (t1 for now) and was wondering if I should use the rigs which can improve probe strength on my ship. I was also going to equip my ship with the fittings to do radar or mag sites.

Any input on this would be appreciated.

Also cloaking device and mwd, yea or ney?

I understood "frigs". Sorry, can't help you.

Bob Artis, you will be missed.

if you are doing this in a t1 cruiser, then by all means use the grav rig, it will help you find things a lot faster, however note that many of the nullsec radars, mag and ladar sites have enough ships to pop most t1 cruiser fits most of the combat lowsec sites will also be too much dps for a solo t1 cruiser to tank and/or run effectively. most 4/10s in hi/low sec will strain your t1's tank or jsut take forever and a day to finish. The battleship at the end of serpentis 4/10's (phi sites) can either be worn down by consistent 200 dps over the course of an hour or beaten very quickly (~2 minutes) by 500 dps.

Radars and mag sites generally will not be that scary in hi/low, but null have more ships, enough that some t2 ships will have issues.

time in site is also important in low and null, as people roaming through will look for you, combat probes pick you up faster then your probes will find the site. so the faster you can clear a site of cans and enemies the faster you can safe or run the next.

because you stated specifically radars and mags, that t1 cruiser should be just fine on tank in hi/lowsec sites. so use the rigs.

in null you will probably want something quite a bit heavier in tank

Its not possible to please all the people all the time, but it sure as hell is possible to Displease all the people, most of the time.

Depends. I'd try for a minimum scan strength of ~80. To do so you can use any combination of faction gear, rigs, implants, and skills. Without more information it's hard to give a "best" answer.

Cloak for sure. You don't want to be exposed while scanning. MWD is nice as some sites are ridiculously spread out (100+ km between cans. The combination is also excellent against gate camps, but honestly those don't come up as often as people seem to think.

Okay, thanks for the responses guys.

I was originally thinking arbitrator or vexor for exploration, but now it sounds like I should be thinking something like the brutix, myrm, or maybe hurricane.

I assume you think about using lower-end ships only.

ArrowFor hisec - most ships will suffice but drone/missile boats are generally better ( Vexor/Arbitrator/Drake/Myrmidon )
ArrowFor lowsec radar/magnetometric sites - both Vexor and Arbitrator are sufficient
ArrowFor low-end lowsec combat sites ( Provisional Outpost, Outpost, DED4 ) - Vexor, Arbitrator, Myrmidon, Drake
ArrowFor hi-end lowsec combat sites ( Minor Annex, Annex, DED5, DED6 ) - you need something better here, Myrm/Drake might work in some sites but it will be very painful. It is better to do those sites in hi-end ships like T3's ( Tengu, drone Proteus ).

Nullsec combat sites require much better stuff and sometimes more than 1 pilot.
Only radars/mags can be done in lower end ships ( in some cases ).
I suggest that you stay out of null for now ( outside of lowsec->nullsec complex expeditions ). Stick to low until you get better skills and ships.

You always want to fit a cloak+mwd for 'safe' travelling.

Good luck in your endeavours.Blink
