And have it written on a bit of paper stuck to your monitor?

Very safe indeed Lol

This is the reason why blizzard is selling those authenticators.

Actually it is very safe since I'll assume that 1) your friends aren't tools and 2) you're not letting total strangers into your home. Granted, it's not a safe practice in public environments. But to say it's not safe in your own home well......

I just wish I was smart enough to remeber a 64 character password.

This is not a signature.

oops, there was a vulnerability in the PNG processing library used by your webbrowser (actually happened for Firefox & Chrome in February this year) and while you loaded a maliciously crafted lolcat picture I installed a keylogger on your computer.

bad luck.

This. You can have a 40 million character password and it won't matter if the machine you typed it on is compromised.

Things are only impossible until they are not.

EVE doesn't need an authenticator because they didn't fail internet 101 and use email addresses (omg DUH) as account names.

OMG You are sooo pixel macho...

And what of those that don't have static IP?

And what of those that travel around a lot?

I'm OK with locking IP, but at least make it an optional layer of security.

If you don't subscribe to suspicious forums

If you don't use hacks/bots

If you don't use steamcrap

Don't open some mails or protect your outlook whatever with your AV

And the list is long, but as far as you have an updated AV/FW run ant trojan/malware programs at least once a week you shouldn't get your PW compromised by any means even with a simple 4 char code.

Even at home all you need is to let your computer 5 min in someone's hands not knowing what he's doing to get half dozen malwares/virus etc. and give your pw's without even knowing it.

there is absolutely no reason for a fricking video game to have better security than your banking institution.

stop thinking its everyone else's job to keep your **** safe, stop being high risk

They did give them out last year fanfest with a promise to turn them on "soon". Of course, that never happened. They even promised sometime this summer to turn them on. Spolier alert, hasn't happened yet.

The reason they've not been turned on yet, apparently, is due to the infrastructure requirements for when someone loses theirs. (How do you prove who you are, to get it redone). It is all covered in that video linked earlier

I'd /love/ it if they used the functionality of the google authenticator. You configure can configure it with a qr code, then use your phone as a soft key (or multiple phones, if you have them).

There's a nice plugin for wordpress to use it too.

Woo! CSM XI!

Exactly.

I worked for a company once that had these absurdly strong password requirements plus the need to change every thirty days, checked against every previous password you had ever used for similarities....

Sticky notes on every computer in the office.

Great security there...
