Carebear-Ganker Hatred is How Eve Thrives

Bah. The carebear-ganker conflict is to the current state of politics the US two party system, whereas the United States versus China-Russia-Iran-MiddleEastOil-SpringRevolution-UN-InsidiousCandianInfiltration is to Eve null-sec.

Pon Farr Memorial: once every 7 years, all the carebears in high-sec must PvP or they will be temp-banned.

We have the highsec mission runners and miners, and then we have the suicide gankers, pirates, scammers, and PvP'ers. Two parties at the opposite ends of the spectrum.

I beg to differ. PvP'ers belong to a totally separate category and usually don't have that same hate relationship with "carebears".

I guess the hard part is the uncertainty. In nullsec (assuming you're NBSI) its pretty obvious who are friendly. In highsec it's pretty safe if you're vigilant and don't make yourself a target, but as in nullsec expect a loss from time to time.

In lowsec everything is uncertain and that is the thing you have to deal with, anyone could potentially be an enemy but could also be a potential friend. It's a very interesting place if you can make a home there.

That is why I consider losec to be the most dangerous place of all. It's like sticking your head in the lion's mouth. Some days he'll keep his jaws open, some days he likes to get through the crunchy part to the gooey center. The rest of the regions in the game are pretty much cut and dry.

You know, when I started this game almost four years ago, the landscape was very different. Missile and speed nerfs were the order of the day, BoB and Goons kept each other in check, and for the most part, life went on. The game flowed smoothly, it was balanced for the most part. In those four years, I have watched as the scales teetered little by little until they became so horribly imbalanced that they threaten to come crashing down. That isn't to say that the game will implode dramatically, I personally believe it is on its way to become a red dwarf in the cosmos of MMOs. There are no checks and balances anymore, power is/has corrupted those who have an overabundance, and essentially started the timer. Unfortunately, there isn't a lot that can stop it now without seriously compromising the structure of the game now.

They somehow managed to get every freak and creep in the universe in this one game, and then somehow managed to let them take it over, and then they somehow managed to stick us right smack in the middle.

Good post.

The virtual universe has given birth to two main cultures, the bears and the players.

Folks at CCP probably regret creating the circumstances that lead to the birth of the bear culture, but now it's too late and we'll just have to see how the situation evolves.

Bears have the numbers, but they are confused, unorganized and mostly quiet, and the few vocal ones are generally regarded as trolls.

Players are the minority, but hold the power via coherent actions, organisation and resourcefulness.

We can only hope that the players win, and bears are driven out to ruin some other games and EVE will continue to prosper.

Serious Ignorance....
The game only thrives when there is a Balance between the two....I don't think anyone would claim that the game has balance right now.

True, there are several imbalanced ships, and armor vs shield tanking is seriously skewed. CCP is working on these, however.
