Do rats show up at null sec grav sites that you have to scan down to get to? I am interested in mining grav sites in NPC nullsec

Looked up...saw this F***ING clown dropping like a rock.  Woke up in Vylade wondering what just happened!!!

Do they spawn in a similar manner as the 'public' belts in the same system? (IE similar frequency, strength and NPC type)

Or does it being a grav site make them any strong/weaker or different in type?

In the cat-and-mouse game that is low sec, there is no shame in learning to be a better mouse.

Also - how do you mine then? You would need to defend yourself, something which no drones will do against the caliber of rats in null sec. Im assuming you would need to bring support in the form of another character with a good ship

The rats are ussually BS sized and then go down the chain. You need a dedicated belt tank, somthing that can soak punishment while you mine. Most nullsec miners have a drake or a domi or another type of ship sit at warpin, they mine and when rats show up warp out on thier mining toons and let the tank get agro, now they just mine nonstop while thier tank has agro on the rats. Almost as if they are not there. Killing the rats is a massive waste of everyones time.

Faction Small shield booster such as a Gistii B Shield booster does a great job at tanking rats with the appropriate modules to help your resistance

NPC rats are not the problem it's getting pointed by others and you have to think that that solo t1 frig that just entered system cand drop a cyno and turn into a capital fleet in a split second.

Unless you fully control that system you are not going to get a chance to mine it FYI.

absolutly true.

and tbh, we all know that 99% of the solo T1 frigs are in fact cyno fitted to drop a capital fleet on single hulks.

Remove Cynos and make Eve real and a sandbox, noooow

The way I mine with 3 chars is with one brick (plated Domi) and two covetors. That's 3 chars to bring in the bacon. Not sure what your options are here as it kind-of depends what your setup is. Hard to manage things without something to take care of the rats though in 0.0. My next setup will be a command ship I think, so I can give bonus to the miners whilst taking care of the rats too. Not sure I'll ever go the Rorqual route, unless I start running ops for other people. Wouldn't use an Orca at all because I don't think it maintains its bonuse out of POS shields. Not good to put one in field.

As for what's life like in null for miners - it's great. No, really, it's nice to mine Crok, Bist, Ark and Merc for a change. I probably earn as much in high sec as I'm ok rolling out the Hulks and the Orca (which I don't do in null), but you know, mining highs feels pretty good.

i been thinking about trying out npc null. i cant stand sov null. if i set up a small pos to operate out of in npc, what is the likelihood of having it shot down. i am thinking of setting up in a out of the way system barely traveled through.

hullks can tank null sec spawns with a little deadspace gear, you don't need a dedicated tank. though as others have said, the real danger lies with other players. gl.

I went down this path with a POS about 3 months ago and asked the same question. Everyone told me that either i would get it shot out from under me OR i would be ok as long as i hid it properly in a back system with 75 moons or something like that. For moon mining most of the high value stuff is taken (and fought over by the big alliances) so you are looking at finding a moon with cadmium possibly something a little more profitable. I was figuring 30-40 million profit per month with a small caldari POS.

At the end of the day it was not worth it for me to jump 25 jumps one way to Jita. I have not looked into any of the manufacturing or invention possibilities. There is also boosters.
