Not having to open people and places for just typing in a search query would be nice.

Just a small search box/widget that can be locked above the overview or something would be nice to have. Search results can ofc still be shown in the same pop-up.

I think this would be an easy to accomplish and (very) welcome addition for everyone.

The current system takes one more click than your proposed system and doesn't require any developer time at all, so they can focus on fixing stuff that's actually broken. I'm not seeing any real justification for spending the man-hours adding in something when the functionality is already in-game, just one click away.

Less windows to open = better imo
