There are OTHER MMO's? Really?

It was all epeens and egos. Little or no respect for the member corps leaders and definitely none for the rank and file from the alliance so-called leadership.

Pilots were just so many meatshields for the machinery.

After a while it simply gets old.

It's one thing to throw your all into a campaign you can believe in and be shown some small modicum of appreciation. 2am CTAs, entire personal hangars worth of ships thrown against every battle, mandatory hotline monitoring via IRC and a half-dozen other technologies; every bit worthwhile and readily given when the cause is just and the leadership upright.

It's an entirely different matter when all one receives is a never ending curse ridden diatribe of vitriol and thankless expectations coupled with threats for non-performance.

A simple "thanks" or "good job" goes miles. Sadly, all that was heard was derision and insult. No effort was ever "good enough" regardless of the outcome of the battle. It was as if we were being incessantly harangued by Gordon Ramsay's evil twin.

The point is reached when one realizes that this is a game, not a second job one pays to perform, and it is clear and obvious that joy and a sense of accomplishment simply cannot be found a midst the rubble and detritus of demanding oppression.

There is a saying; "Lincoln freed the slaves and the Supreme Court abolished indentured servitude".

Some alliance heads get it. Some do not. One, in particular, did not and likely still doesn't.

EVE's the only MMO I regularly return to. Brief vacations in other games are sometimes nice, but these days, there's not even anything out there worth vacationing to.

I suspect I'll be ignoring ESO entirely; I'm still cringing in terror from the official announcement. I simply don't think the team behind it has the skills to make an MMO worthy of the Elder Scrolls, especially with Matt Firor running the show. (Yes, I'm still bitterbutthurt about his Executive Production of Dark Age of Trials of Everquest Lite.)

Still waiting for a 40K MMO, but that seems to be a mythical creature that will never be seen in our lifetimes.

Am excited for MWO, simply because freebirth scum need to die.

Everything else, unless Fallout 4 or The Elder Scrolls VI: Elsweyr comes out, meh. (Or TES VI: Summerset Isle. I'm pretty sure I'm never going to get tired of decapitating Thalmor.)

lack of interest in gaming also has to do with age... as you grow older you start to care a lot less about mostly everything.

i played video games since age 4 and now i'm 28... the only game i care about is starcraft 2 (for casual) and eve.

i used to buy a new computer every year... now i'm on a computer that's 4 years old.

i tried to play diablo 3... which was fun until i finished it and went to "nightmare", i had to play the exact same game on a higher difficulty... for what purpose?

eve will last 10-30 years if it can... that's why we're all here. this game just doesn't die.

Another vote for arma II dayz mod. The guy who developed said it was more art than just a computer game, which despite that thought i'd give it a try anyway.

After playing it for a couple weeks i can see where he's coming from. It gets the adrenalin pumping, like EvE, but more than that there are times when it feels like, 'yeah, this is what it would be like if the zombie apocalypse happened' When you're crouch running through the fields, scanning the surroundings for zombies, prone walking so you aren't noticed and if you are do you want to risk firing the shot that could alert the horde? All the time in the back of your mind thinking 'does another player have me in his sights' You are vulnerable and aware of it every time you make a move. When you die you lose everything you have, it's awesome.

This is the reason I have not been involved in Null (other than the occasional Agony fleet) for some time. Not that I don't want to, but because of the culture which still predominates there. I come here to relax from work, not be involved in another job (I'll drop all online gaming first, and re-focus my efforts back to FOSS projects - which, ironically, I had started thanks to SL). I love challenges, and PvP (to me) is not challenging as part of a cog in a group; Even PvE is not interesting or a challenge. Industry *is* a challenge to me, at any level or scale (because of its complexity and logistical scope), and has never lost my attention.


Regarding different types of online game, its why I had so much hope for Myst Online / Uru. An MMO which focused purely on RPG elements, no combat at all, and story would be driven by interaction between the players and the Cyan-driven actors. Unfortunately it all broke down under some of the same infighting seen here; Possibly for the worse, because some (like myself) presented their RL selves to the community, and as I liked to say "when your only weapon is words..." *sigh* We lost a lot of good people that way - some dropped from the Internet entirely.

Also, for 'ultimate metagame' Travian still wins. Moreso that they went P2W (the Gold system).
