If I jump through a gate in a punisher and find a gate camp on the other side is it better to try and warp away or try to crawl back to the gate?

depends on the gatecamp. If they have fast lockers, you should burn back

Yep, this. If you see interceptors I would crash the gate. Instacanes (or other sebo ships) can also lock/point you real quick.

The best thing I ever did to teach myself something in this game was to buy 10 Probes, find gate camps, and practice getting threw them or crashing the gate. I lost 7 before I figured out when was best to do what. Nothing beats experience.

So the answer is "depends" lol. No really, that makes sense. Truthfully I can't even tell you what ship types they were. I saw flashy red and immediately started to warp out. I guess I should pay attention and see how long my cloak lasts when I jump through a gate so next time I know about how much time I have to make a decision. Thanks.

Yeah, in most cases if there is no bubble and you are in a frigate you can warp before anything can lock you.

I made a video about escaping camps a while back. You can check it out here: http://www.eveproguides.com/escaping-gate-camps-video-guide/

Is there a max align time one should keep in mind?

When deciding to wther or not you should burn to the gate or not?

The thing to remember when you jump into a gate camp is to keep your head. Your gate cloak lasts for 30 seconds. Take a look at what you are facing. General I find a station, moon or customs office and target it. (Have an overview tab with this setup.) If you have a cloak and MW do this http://wiki.eveuniversity.org/Cloak_Trick. If not just hit warp and hope for the best. If you get pointed burn for the gate.

You have 1 minute of cloak time. Use that time to survey the camp and make an informed decision on what tactic to use. In something small warping off is typically the best alternative, where as something larger (and thus slower) usually burning back is best. But as has been said already its entirely dependent on the particular situation.

Honestly, your best bet is to die to the gate campers and then make an angry post somewhere on the forums about how they have no skill and criticize how they choose to use their time playing EVE. Calling them sociopaths in real life who only like to prey on people who don't want to fight is also a good option.

It doesn't matter if you lose a ship in EVE as long as you are sure to call out the other group on being less skilled at the game than you, even though you're the one with the dead ship.

The key thing i'm trying to say here is, don't change your playing style based on how other people enjoy playing the game. If someone else isn't playing the game in a way that is convenient for you, THEY are the ones doing it wrong and therefore must be bad at the game.

I've found success with warping as soon as I zone in, not waiting for a second. If they've been sitting there awhile and semi afkish...one guy in the group is probably watching the gate and may say "hey someone just warped in" to get the others ready to lock.

If the pointers happen to be the ones semi-afk in the time it takes them to realize its their cue, you're already gone.

If you sit and wait there for 30 seconds, it'll give them time to be ready to pounce the second you decloak.

I've landed in gate camps in my industrial and, after hitting warp immediately...had only one, maybe two guys in a 6-man gate camp start locking me.

The same tactic works if you jump into a gate camp from the back end and they all follow you through the gate.

This doesn't work if they have a scout and know you're coming.

In the cat-and-mouse game that is low sec, there is no shame in learning to be a better mouse.

Depends on the camp size and what ships there are, i've only been caught in a frig once or twice and gone through many gate camps.

And i usually just warp out.

I concur with this. Depending on what ship you fly, waiting for [insert_random_numbers_here] seconds before you go when there are inties or light tackles about could be a worse idea than warping out instantly (generally, warping out when there are inties camping you while you're in a big ship isn't a good idea though), because in that time they can prepare themselves and wait until you break gate cloak.

In low sec I have found that if I have an MWD - I burn back. One quick pulse and your on the gate clicking(spamming) jump just in time. This works for me 99% of the time.

If no MWD - Look for a Celestial or something else in line (in front of your ship) with where you jumped in. Find whatever you are most aligned to, try warp to it and hope for the best.
