So now when you leave something open, like the ship hanger, when you try to open the inventory, nothing happens because a window is already open.

How f'ing amateur'ish are you going to stay CCP? Really?

Ship spinning says otherwise.

It is interesting to note that, regardless of whether the inventory is better or worse than it has historically been, I find that its overall effect is really so minor that it's fairly useless to go on about it in such a way as we have been.

Whoops.

I would not say inventory is FAIL, but awkward/cumbersome feeling.

Usually the already open window is in the wrong place, has the wrong size and does not nave the tree view. Happens all the time to me, since now the windows recall their state on dock, you will easily have the items window open.
One would believe that pressing the neocom icon would open another "full featured" window in the center of the screen but what happens is that the item window disappears instead. So you have to make it reappear, then de-customize it and then re-open everything again.

I found a little arrow button on the item window that should turn it into a "full featured" window. But it is pretty silly that you can't just open a new one with the neocom button.

Yes the little arrow works but then you'll get the tree view which will screw your window size (i.e. if you counted BPCs in rows of 5 for resale, they will end up moved) and requires - guess what - several clicks to open something else and then back to the UI to re-close the tree view.

They made it more cumbersome to deal with. I tested the new inventory on sis, didn't really like it but didn't complain because I figured I'd adapt to it (which I did).

Now I adapted to it and CCP screwed it up again Roll...

Thank you! Exactly.

Who is testing these "fixes" every week do you think?

And just FYI, for anyone that thinks this crap works, you could NOT have played long enough to feel the clicks.

And how do you like when you need to move stuff in the tree. You highlight what you want, move it over to the tree, and if you keep it here for two seconds, the stupid inventory area you were looking at changes to where you are dropping the items. How ignorant is that? So now you have to re-click to go BACK to where you were so you can move another group of stuff to another place. F'ing ignorant.

they've fixed a lot of things in the past week.

I could live with the change IF they fix the lag and they bring the orca hanger tabs back.

Yes, there still is some inconvenience added with the system. but I just want to be able to use it to do a large mining op when I have to have 5 or 6 windows cycling open in space during the op. Without those orca hanger tabs the hanger window must take up too much space.

Yeah I'm still finding the inventory so annoying that I'm not playing much atm, just skilling up and waiting for the inventory to be sorted out, which is a shame because I'd been looking forward to a month of EVE Sad

I totally agree with Tippia that the idea of a unified inventory in a game like this is ill conceived. Notionally, we are not interacting with a computer where everything is a "file", but with a game world where items have different levels of importance and require different methods of handling. Plus you often need to cross-compare things, and the new UI makes that a very clunky process.

The unified inventory is sort of ok if you're just piddling about, but if you're doing any intensive inventory work it has far less utility than the old inventory - or at least, the new utility it brings (and it does bring some) is less than the utility that's been lost.

So true. What sense does that make??

Worse than that though, is when you open a container that you can't actually open - such as locked cans in RADAR sites. Instead of doing nothing, which it should since you can't access the container, your own inventory opens up for some reason. Very annoying.

So here is a guide to using the new inventory in effective ways:

Alt N - Open Ships hanger in station
Alt G - Open items in station
Remap ship cargo to Alt C and Inventory to Alt I (and delete w/e silly default window it had)

Alternatively you can open the inventory with its default Alt C and shift click the three containers listed above to separate them.

okay now that you have them all open, now to set them up...

Place the ships hanger in your expected spot and do the same for the items and your ship's cargo. These three will retain their spaces and configurations (regarding tree view and open/closed state)

Now set up the main inventory where you want extra things like cans and corp hangers to open into. From here you can use the tree view to access drone bays, cans and etc. If you are navigating a lot between two places (like a can and the fuel bay for instance) then open up the tree view on the items hanger and use them both, when done with more complicated stuff then go back to the items hanger and close the treeview.

In space you can keep wrecks and cans separate the ship cargo by using the inventory for this purpose. The ship cargo should have retained its position when you undocked so just place the in-space version of the inventory near it for your cans and wrecks to open up into.

If you want a third place for stuff like corp hangers at POSes and etc then you can shift click that open into a third window. This third window and the original inventory window can both have the tree open when working with lots of containers just like in station.

This way you can have the ship cargo, ships, and items hangers open 90% of the time and not have to deal with the inventory until you need to access some special cans.

And by the way the "open on mouse over" is a feature damnit. I actually like using it to look inside the target can and see how much space it's gonna take. If not then why the **** are you sat there for so long that it opens? Do you lack some sort of accuracy with a mouse or something that you must wiggle around the location as your shaking hand narrows down on it?

The tree entries are too small? Bullshit, they just as small if not bigger then the old tab labels when having several containers tabbed up in the old system. If you legitimately can't get yourself to drop the dragged items once you are over the target container name then I will agree that CCP could put in a option to disable it or an adjustable delay so that the feature may still be usable by slower handicapped users.
