The old adage that all publicity is good publicity is an outdated concept in our "Web 2.0" world, where getting a minute of face time on YouTube rarely results in that coveted fifteen minutes of fame. In fact, today most publicity is bad publicity, what with the drunken, druggy photos on Facebook making you unemployable in any organization that doesn't allow you to wear more than three colors to work.

This goes double for EVE.

How many people who have felt what they consider to be "grief" pollute the game and the forums with their vitriol? How many of these people go to other forums and leave tear-filled "stay away" posts, or write scathing reviews on their blogs, after losing their Hulks, Tengus, ISK, assets, et cetera, to valid and supported gameplay mechanics? The answer is "enough to turn away a considerable amount of people who would have otherwise tried the game, and liked it."

Enter the Goldz-4-Quitz program.

I have recently been making a lot of money in D3, something to the tune of billions of gold within a week. As a loyal EVE fan, I want to put that gold to good use. As such, I'm willing to pay people who feel aggrieved to the point that they decide to unsubscribe and engage in hostile anti-marketing campaigns on these forums, or elsewhere, to not do so, and instead leave without spreading negative propaganda that endangers this game's future. Basically, I would pay Hulkageddon victims and wardec magnets a few million gold to quit and move on to a game that would better fit their dispositions. Of course, I would absolutely require each participant to submit a YouTube video of their characters being biomassed.

So, my questions are:

1. Would this be within the spirit of the game, and allowed by CCP?
2. Would people be interested in taking advantage of such a program?

I wrote some true EVE stories! And no, they're not of the generic "my 0.0 alliance had lots of 0.0 fleets and took a lot of 0.0 space" sort. Check them out here:

So wait, if I biomass an alt, you will give me D3 gold, which can be legally RMTed?

Where do I sign up?

I wouldn't be so silly as to not do some research before approving someone to the program. The character would need to have some age/skillpoints attached to it, as well as relevant losses on record.

I like your intention, but what's to stop someone from taking your money, then turning around and spewing bile anyway?

Having been on a few forums of those "other" video games, I would think reasonably intelligent people understand that this is the anonymous internet culture and the raging forum warrior syndrome at work. I pretty much ignore what anyone says and form an opinion myself, I can't be the only one, right? Big smile

In all my travels I've only found one game that truly showed the mark of death, and unfortunately that game is Black Prophecy. It's a shame too, it was a really cool game that I would have enjoyed it there were more than 30 people left playing it and more than 5 forum posters.

PS I see you goons, owning two tyi stations.....what did you do?!?! I'm placing all the blame on you! Big smile

So close...

Nothing, but we've got to assume that at least some people will be placated enough not to.

Good games don't die. Good games only turn into bad games when the developers give in to demands of bad players.

I was looking forward to Black Prophecy too... but the game was fundamentally flawed because of pay-to-win and sharding. Also, when I played it the lag was unacceptable for a twitch-based fighting game. It really seemed like a half ass attempt to make an MMO... kind of like BSG was a let-down. The danger of course is complacency on CCPs part because every challenger that steps forward has been weak. Welp... I think Bungie and Activision will be the next to try with their space-based persistent MMO "Destiny". Guess we'll see what happens...

Most of the people that say they are quitting will be back in a couple of months anyway. Hell, most of them were just NPC alts that have already been biomassed to make way for their next 'I quit' alt.

I like your idea though, biomassing is the only way to prove that you have quit eve.

I actually heard they made major balance changes that pretty much drove everyone away.

Yeah, I wasn't crazy about P2W but it didn't seem that bad, it seemed more like pay to get stuff done faster. As far as I could tell there were very few IWIN buttons for sale pvp wise. The lag was excellent when I played, I had no issues except for the fusion gun, that was hit or miss with what little lag there was.

I wish I would sit down and hash out a bunch of ideas I got floating around for a space based MMO and pitch it to a developer, I'd liek to play it.....I'd also like to get rich.
