Has anyone been able to squeeze some utility out of this ship? I'm a lower sp character, newish to pvp and kinda poor. I like the price of the hull and was thinkin' you fellers could help me fit one for small gang pvp, and solo.

The tormentor is a great example showing that the DEVS don't understand combat. It can't do the role they invented for this ship, it's not a logical ship to use in any sort of way. "It works sometimes against idiot targets" is hardly a valid rebuttal.

It has a role? I thought it was a t1 ship a mini Armageddon hence the flexibility. Its role is what you make it and its a welcome change to all the cookie cutter specialized ships that are such the rage these days.

The only real advantage of the Tormentor is that it's still only 50k isk to make. Still, without a proper role, it's still money down the drain. I'm not impressed with how CCP Ytterbium's Tiercide going so far.

My point exactly :)

CCP dreamt up some roles for ships based on... no actual eve combat logic and then started rebalancing ships to perform in those imaginary roles. The Tormentor can't even work in the role they made up for it, that's how useless it is. There's no logical fit that makes sense in an actual ingame scenario that makes it a good ship.

Cheap tackle. Which amarr needed. 3 mid slots unlike the punisher for this. So I'd say it's a very good change and exactly what was needed. You want to fight in a t1 frig get the punisher, you want a disposable tackle fly his. I don't see the issue.

This. And 170+ish DPS on a tech one frigate is nothing to sneeze at either.

Funny you should say that, since CCP clearly have stated that their remaking of frigates (and later other ship classes) is to make more specialized ships in order to remove "useless" ships that serves no purpose from this game. So "flexibility" is actually what CCP want to move away from. In that regard, they have failed if what you say is the case (never tried new Tormentor myself).

On a serious note, though, it would be nice of CCP to actually make the tormentor a bit faster if they want it to be used as a tackler. Currently, it's slower than the Punisher. Sad

It's the only Amarr laser frig hull with 3 mids in the game. That alone makes it special and useful.

I really don't get CCP. They remove the Amarr mining frigate and then let it all hang in limbo, there's no substitute for Amarr pilots who want to mine till CCP gets its arse in gear (which knowing CCP can take quite a while) and they replaced it with a ship that lacks a real purpose other than "3 slot tackler, even though it's not really that good".

Split system? Why? Where does that info comes from?

2 mids? That's a fail for a tackleboat. Should be 3 and to hell with the flavor, the role demands it, period.

PvP yes it is a tad lacking. I was messing around with a Beam and TD kite fit to see how it did.

PvE though its an interesting choice for a newbie, being able to do 1/4 of your damage as explosive on a laser boat should not be sneezed at

I've been having some fun with this. Swap the Memory Cell for another Locus if your cap skills are good. The tracking disruptor is your tank/protects your drones for a bit.

Oh no. The Tormentor is flexible in its role and fittings! How do the Amarr pilots know how to fit it? That's unheard of!

Imagine what they are going to do to the Prophecy, the Augoror and the Maller! Imagine, an Amarr battlecruiser with HAMs, or HAM/Lasers?!?!
