The Ultimate Grief?

Mittani justifies his actions by trying to make the game better, saving it from the idiotic, unwashed masses who never cared to learn how to play. (see Presumption of Safety)

Conceptually, I agree. Assuming Hulkageddon ends one day, then the industrials that remain will be smarter, tougher, and more able to suvive in this harsh universe called New Eden.

But what if it doesn't end? What if it expands? Hulkageddon becomes Missiongeddon. Missiongeddon becomes Incursiongeddon. Incursiongeddon becomes Marketgeddon. What happens? Are Mittani and his Goons (and their allies) willing to break EvE for no other reason than because they can?

Before Mittani's ban, I would have said no. As much as many of us hate EvE and the people in it, we love it too. There's no other game like it out there. Nothing comes close. And as much as Goons like to grief, EvE online is the best place to be a Goon. It's in their best interest to keep EvE alive so they can be who they are free of virtually any restrictions.

Now, however, I honestly don't know. Mittani's ban could be the first step, the catalyst to the Mittani's giant 'F-You' to CCP. The Ulitimate Grief.

Let's assume for a moment that Mitanni succeeds. That in a year or two from now, EvE no longer exists because Mittani drove out enough people that EvE could not sustain itself. CCP is dead. Dust is...well dust.

As I said above, there is no other game like Eve. Sure, Mittani would be able to walk around for the rest of his life saying, "Who killed Eve Online? This guy!" But what then? Who would he grief? Sure there are other games, but none like EvE.

Its like all those villans who aspire to destroy the world. What if one of them actually succeded? "Great work boss! You destroyed the world! Now what?"

"Ummm..."

It's kind of like a dog chasing a car. What would Mittani do if he actually destroyed EvE? There's no other EvE to grief in. Would Goons really be happy trying to be griefers in WoW or SWTOR?

So what does CCP do? Obviously, for their survival, CCP would be forced to step in at some point and make changes. What those changes would be, I have no idea. Only that they would be forced to respond. They would never admit to interfering with the sandbox, but please, we're not stupid. We'd know what they're up to. The real question is would EvE survive the changes? In their attempt to save EvE, would CCP destroy it?

And then there's the players themselves. It's interesting that many Null Secers want to play in a universe of consequence, yet have seemingly removed any consequence fromt their own existence. Pandemic Legion and Goonswarm get into a huge fleet fight in 0.0 space. So what? Who cares? With a stable Null Sec, it doesn't mean anything. It's no difference than going into a Warzone in SWTOR, beating each other senseless and then going your seperate ways after. Sell off some Technium to replace your ship losses and the hamster wheel starts all over again. OTEC has in effect created High Sec in Null Sec.

How long will the players sit around, content to soak up their Technium, participate in meaningless 'good fights,' and crushing anyone who might try to break up OTEC and/or the CFC? Will this all fall apart because someone gets bored? Or greedy? Or maybe because they just don't like what's going on?

Ultimately, I agree with what Mittani and his Goons are doing. To a point.

How this all plays out, however, really depends on his motivations. If he truely believes in EvE as a concept, he'll step back after the lesson is learned and EvE will continue on, albeit changed due to his actions, and probably for the better.

If he is just lashing out because he just doesn't ******* care anymore, then he won't let up until we're all forced to play Hello Kitty Island Online Adventures. If this is the case, then I find it ironic that while Mittani espouses to want a game of freedom and consequence, he would be unable to accept the consequences of his own actions. He would destroy the only game in existence that gives people freedom. Even the freedom to be stupid.

You assume that these "geddons" do not already occur using different names.

The goons do not need to sponsor any of these actions for them to already exist.

Your paranoia is taking you over and misplaced.

If you combine all the long diatribes written about The Mittani by original posters on this forum into a book it would be longer then War & Peace and Moby Dick combined.

Which makes the term original poster pretty ironic.

As stated upthread, this is the slippery slope fallacy.

The important thing right now is that we work together to get rid of the highsec miners. Let's not get distracted with other things. Once the highsec miners are gone, we can worry about what comes next.

Didn't bother to read it all, because why would you think CCP would let anyone ruin the game, ever? Subs drop, CCP will make adjustments.

The problem James is that high sec miners seem to keep coming back all the time....everywhere i fly in high sec, I get multiple mining ships on d-scan. The fight is pointless. It is surely not working. A waste of time. High sec miners are currently winning and lauging at ALL the gankers. Laughing at you.
