Black Screen after loading game.

This only happens on one of my 3 accounts. 2 accounts launch fine, the 3rd doesn't.

After character selection, the world loads and then I just get a black screen. I can see mail notifications, I can see a pop if I stop my ship, and I can load the esc menu. That's pretty much it.

I've tried fiddling with the graphic settings and clearing the cache.

Any help?

I am having a similar problem. The client loads fine and i hear the music and can even log in, even though i can't see anything. Just randomly started today and i even re-downloaded the game client and that doesn't fix it. Running a 13" powerbook pro w/ lion. I would really appreciate the help. Smile

I am having the same problem since Inferno! The login screen loads fine, as does the character selection screen, even the station environment, but when I undock into space everything goes black. Also, when the black screen occurs my entire PC slows to a crawl. I have to reset my computer in order for it to function normally.

I'm also having similar problems, upon launching the game I only get a black screen, though I can hear music, and I am forced to close the game via the task manager.

This is a fresh install - I only just resubbed after a long time away from the game.

I've tried the following and they make no difference:

-Restarting the computer
-Deleting the game cache (both manually and through the launcher)
-Changing the desktop resolution
-Closing all other open applications
-Using the repair tool
-Running in administrator mode (I'm running Windows 7)
-Running the client in safe mode

I'd really like to get this fixed ASAP since I feel like I've just wasted my money on resubbing otherwise. :/

Same problem here, after some time ingame, I randomly get a black screen for a few seconds to a few minutes.
It happened for the first time today, last time I played before that was yesterday. I didn't install any new software or pilot that I am aware of.
Happened while on a mission. Luckily my tank held, but it is an issue when engaging in PvP (which I luckily didn't).

I'm running EVE on Windows 7, i5 CPU @ 2,27 GHz, 4 GB Ram and Ati Radeon HD 5650.

Edit: it happened again. I tested a few things.
You cannot get out of the client with Ctrl-Shift-Esc or Ctrl-Alt-Del.
I am thinking of re-downloading the client.

OK, to follow this up, I managed to get things working.

I have a HP DV6 notebook with a Radeon 6770M card. Unfortunately, HP's official drivers are not updated to the latest standard and aren't compatible with the game.

The latest Catalyst drivers do seem to work though. For those having issues with ATI cards and desktop PCs, an update may be a good idea!

For those on notebooks with switchable graphics, try the unofficial driver packages available here: http://drivers.leshcatlabs.org/

I can't promise that they're completely bug free, or that they'll work for you, but in my case they did the trick. They appear to be simply repackages of the official drivers into a bundle that includes the integrated Intel chipset as well.

This does not seem to be a graphic issue, as one of my other characters works fine.

What I've discovered... I have all of my PI in Ruvas. I can use keyboard shortcuts to get through Ruvas into Kakakela or Umokka.
Once out of Ruvas, everything works dandy.

The fantastic new inventory window has a spinning cargo wheel of death while in Ruvas. Once again outside of Ruvas, Inventory/cargo screens index properly.

I have re-installed the client, wiped my cache/settings, and my ATI drivers were already up to date.

Let's see what happens when I log in tonight.

I might have the beginning of an answer.
In my case, it might an hardware issue caused by EVE: since Inferno and the wonderful missile effect, EVE uses more ressources than before, causing my graphic card to heat up sensibly more.
Yesterday's problems might have been caused by an excessive heat and electric charge in my computer. I removed the battery and pressed the switch for a minute to remove any remaining charge, and it seems to work fine so far.

Same issue here. Jumped though a few gates and my display came back. It was only effecting 1 of 3 clients running on the same machine. A little while later, I undocked all 3 clients in the same system and all 3 went black. Repair has been run. I'm not going to reset the UI, as it doesn't seem to be the culprit and hasn't worked for others.

I have this issue also today. In Amarr space, just running missions, i came out of a station and b00m! Black screen. I can see mail notifications and hear the music but that is it.

I have restarted client and pc. I have reset graphics options. I have cleared the cache files and nothing has worked thus far. Any CCP folks know what is going on here? Its baffling not to mention annoying. What can i do?


EDIT: I just wanted to add that i have just logged in with an alt character (which is on the same account) and the game works perfectly. I then tried this problematic character and the problem remains.

I'd really appreciate CCP advice ASAP please because i know that scores of other people have experienced this problem and the more i read the more i believe it is a problem with EVE and not my hardware. FYI I have submitted a bug-report.

I would now like to update this thread because i solved the problem (of a black screen) myself and managed to make my game playable once again.

I solved it by clearing my mail cache, so it seems to have something to do with EVE mail. This makes sense because whilst having a black screen, the 'new mail notification' icon was the only thing still visible and seemingly unaffected by this GUI bug.

I hope this helps CCP fix this problem once and for all, should it be on their list of priorities. Or even if its not! Smile

Would be very interested to hear if the mail cache clear works for others. We have no in-house repro of this yet.

Thank the EVE gods that I'm not the ONLY ONE with this incredibly frustrating problem!

I can log into the game just fine. Character selection works just fine. Getting into the game with my character is no problem. I've got full access to everything in station; inventory, mail, agents/missions, ship spinning, etc - even Captains Quarters works just fine...

However! The second I undock from the station, I get the dreaded "black screen." I still have access to all the stuff on the left hand side of my screen (inventory, fitting, mail, etc). I still have access to all my modules, etc. I even have access to the interface - I can select targets (even engaged a WT while staring at the black screen). It's like the environment just doesn't seem to be loading.

On top of that, for whatever reason, EVE seems to be making my internet FUBAR. I can't access internet explorer, I can't access any in-game links (killboards, links, etc).

I've done everything I know to do to try and resolve the issue, with some rather interesting results. First and foremost I ran the "repair tool." Restarted the game, and low and behold, the game worked great for the remainder fo the day. However, when I logged back on the next day - SSDD - black screen.

Went to update my drivers via the control panel (Windows7). Everything is up to date. Restarted the computer. Same thing - black screen. Went to Raedon's website and manually downloaded a driver package. Restarted the computer again, logged into the game and everything worked great again for the remainder of the night.

Then I log in today just KNOWING everything was going to work just fine - WRONG! Same thing again! Back to the black screen, internet locking up and back to being frustrated.

I just re-subbed EVE. I've got this account, and this account only running at the moment. I've got two other accounts laying in wait to re-sub - IF this dreaded issue gets fixxed.

HELP US DEVS!!!!

Well you all are one step ahead of me. My EVE just goes straight to a black screen before I can't even see the login before my game goes to "Not Responding" When by chance it did allow me to log in and select my character, I would hear the station sounds, see I have mail, but the screen would remain completely black, then the game would go into "Not Responding" mode. Yet, I could wait a few hours and all four of my clients set to the lowest settings of course would work just fine. All of my other games work just fine at top settings.

So frustrating. I did a fresh install and was able to log in but by that time I was already tired and had lost several hours of my gaming time the other day. This is a bug that is inconsistent. The game can work, or the game won't work. everything else is just fine and it is definitely NOT a hardware issue on my end.

So... very frustrating...

Well, since I was certain my graphics drivers were all up to date, turns out there was a secondary driver related to Nvidia's "Verde" thing. Game works fine, for now. I'll be back if it does it again to confirm this fix as 'not a fix'. hopefully it WILL be a FIX.
