[feature req] Shortcut key for 'Camera Forward' to current heading

TLDR a shortcut to snap camera to current ship heading would be fuckin AWESOME

Fellow Scope correspondent Faustina and I would like to ask CCP devs involved with UI and shortcuts to please let us bind a shortcut key that points your camera in the direction your ship is facing. And any CCP devs who aren't involved with that please encourage the ones who are.

"Camera Forward" shortcut would be really awesome for reasons 1-n:


  • i'm learning to dscan, a button to orient camera forward would help me get my bearings in system
  • Am I aligned in any direction when I gate in? If so I'd like to know which
  • exhaust trails are probably the sexiest part of all my **** shaped gallente ships

    I agree completely as this would make recording easier, but i was thinking more long the lines of viewing you ship from different points on the ship...

    One might be focused on the starboard and port side of a ship with emphasis on guns on a ship like maybe the abbadon

    The other is on place where the bridge would be (NOTE: does not have to actually be in the bridge)

    A camera view placed off to the side on the ship while still focused on the direction the ship is facing.

    A camera view placed behind and slightly above a ships engines.

    Although this would not be a game changer it would help with making EVE videos and it might entice newbies to join, because most people are discouraged when seeing a small flight is just a bunch of windows with a small view of the actual ship in the middle.

    Another idea, different shortcut key to focus camera on selected item. This way I can instantly dscan my next gate or a celestial I'm about to warp to.
