Whats next, life after the tengu and the mach

Here is my current setup for grinding anoms out in 0.0
Thanatos + Mach, and I'm having great success with it at the moment. I'm getting about 25-28 mil ticks per toon, so between the two toons, about 160 mil an hour. Each toon fullfills a certain role, carrier primary dps focusing on battleship npc's while the mach focuses on the smaller ships while they are still at range. (the single shots on all frigates is amazing and a big reason why i love the mach). I still have a bit of touching up with the mach skills, rapid firing 5, min bs 5, just a couple of small modifying skills, but for the most part, the mach is performing at the level its going to perform at.

So, where do i go next besides moving the mach pilot into a carrier. Is there another sub capital ship out there that will perform better then the mach. Vargur, golem, nightmare (i have zero laser skills, but its only 50 days away).

Could there be another better primary dps ship that will dispatch npc battleships better then a full skills carrier pilot?

Ive had a fantasy of a dual 1400mm vargur combo alpha-ing npc battleships every 14 seconds, but I dont think with all the upgrades, implants, and skilling they could alpha strike them. just not enough dps delivered in one shot.

So, what else is out there, whats next.

Yes, I complain about things I don't like.

Thanatos with 15 sentries?

Edit - Saw subcap derp

I tried it the first weekend of the new patch, and sadly, advanced drone interfacing 5 is my most embarrassing skill. sentry carrier + tengu, or mach (tried both) wasn't more effective, i was getting 20-23 mil ticks, so i regressed a bit. I was wondering if a sentry carrier with no travel time could out perform one with three sets of 5,5,4 fighters, and it did not. Granted, the experiment only lasted about two hours. If the suggestion was sentry carrier + fighter carrier, maybe, but that's another half year of training to the one toon moderately competent at being a capital pilot. But i can see it happening in the future.

on paper, a nightmare actually overtakes a mach in applied dps at around 30km (perfect skills). the downside is that you are limited to em/thermal, so depending on what you're shooting, the real applied dps may still be smaller. you also have only 4 guns, so you can only pop 4 frigates at once instead of 7. the nightmare's extra high slot can also be useful.

edit: another advantage is that a nightmare can sit and shoot for hours with one set of crystals.

I should buy an Ishtar.
