Never ending Hulkageddon

Before I start, here's a little disclaimer: I am not complaining about Hulkageddon or anything like that, its an interesting time of year.

Correct me if im wrong, but wouldn't an indefinate Hulkageddon just make it less 'special' (couldnt think of a better word) and then wouldn't it just become a daily part of EVE life?

PS: If you think this is a whine thread come visit my mining alt in Ohide, warning, he flys a covetor so it doesnt count as one of your 10 kills, although there are some hulks in the system.Pirate

I would say it makes it even more special, if only for the grand scale of it all.

I would say it makes it even more special because of the longer term implications it could have on many different aspects of the game, rather than being an occasional blip.

I would say it makes it even more special because of the many more "teachable moments" that it'll bring to miners all over the cluster.

Not a member of Goonswarm, but I love the ruthlessness that they exhibit, whether it's with their support of an indefinite Hulkageddon or cornering the market on the one moon goo that everyone wants and very few people actually have access to through their OTEC endeavor.

Goons went to Jita and did Burn Jita. Except in comparison, I think that's nothing compared to the much larger fires they're trying to ignire not in just one system, but in all systems, everywhere.

It just means that we'll have to create something even more "special" than Hulkageddon to be a limited-time event

I wrote some true EVE stories! And no, they're not of the generic "my 0.0 alliance had lots of 0.0 fleets and took a lot of 0.0 space" sort. Check them out here:

A drowning man will take his savior to the bottom with him in that frantic attempt to walk on water.

Soon technetium will be in hands of the masses and the mighty dragon will fall.

If you check what this perma-Hulkageddon is about, it's not really an Hulkageddon.

The original event has several novel or emergent aspects:

- One player, Helicity Boson affecting so many with his own efforts

- Helicity would work to get sponsorships and even putting some of himself into it.

- It was a sort of "Santa" event, that is something to wait for.

- It had elements of comraderie but also of competition: only 1 would get the "most killed XYZ ship" prize.

- It tasted of old genuine "Pirate" style at work. You know, those who are getting extinct from EvE.

The new one is to Piracy what a megacorp like EA is to an emergent game studio: boring, bland, subsidized.

- A large prominent group of infinitely rich players looking down at the others and handing them a sop.

- Evident interest of the same group at keeping their Technetium market monopoly tight by selectively prizing only the kills off the most Technetium based T2 ships. Business instead of sportmanship.

- Helicity has been stolen his idea.

- It's not a "Santa" event any more. It's subsidized NPC 100% insurance, a truly player supported welfare system in a supposed harsh game with consequences.

- No competition, but just a quite WoW-esque: "Kill 10 gruok intestines, get prize" scheme. You kill 10 ships you get your green sword, no question asked, no competition about the ship type or what you used to kill it.

- It's industrialized and thus smells of stale. Piracy was better.

Finally, there was a feeling of "cat and mice" game play which I really enjoy in other PvP games.
You never knew what was coming next, nor their reason. Plus the opponent was manageable. IE you could kill him or wardec him, put a lolbounty...

Now you know that it's an organized operation, like a Tupperware marketing campaign or some Jeohva witness trying to convert you. It's basically drones sent around to poke at things. You can't manage them since it's like one of those cheap zombies movies, they can't be stopped. You can't really retaliate as they are too many. This kills all the elements of fun, since the "consequences" for them now are not being chastised but just to have to pay for a 2M ship. Oh wait, that's subsidized too.

So no, conceptually this hollow shell still shares the same name after the event it stole from, but it's not really it.

This said by someone who just yesterday posted he'd be glad to sponsor an Helicity initiative to kill Tengus and who was also to sponsor prizes in the next event. But I am not gonna support *this* new Hulkageddon, it's not the real thing any more.

Yes it would make it less special. Luckily Hulkageddon finished after 30 days. Many winners had many prices in many disciplines. I can't wait to take part in this competition next year!

The problem you try to make up does not exists.

This disagrees

Unless you are implying it wont be a true hulkageddon, in that case, I agree with you

I'm not implying anything. Hulkageddon has ended a few days ago. What goons do is to pay a bounty for destroyed Exhumers. That is not the same thing by any means. You even managed to contradict yourself. You either disagree that that the goon-thing is not Hulkageddon or you don't. If you insist that you can pretend both you need help that you wont find in a internet spaceship game.

Clearly I need to clarify my statement from my pervious post:

I think this indefinate Hulkageddon won't have the uniquness (if thats a word) the old ones did. But that does not change the fact its Hulkageddon.

Not possible, OP.

95 % of "hulkageddoneers" are happily biomassing their toons, because of spoiled sec. status, at least the effective gankers. Now they need some time to buid up a char which can fly a dessy and that may take some days.

The other 5 % who care about EULA are killing rats to repair sec. status, but nobody cares about, same as the other 95 %, not even CCP.

Why do we need to repair sec if we live in null?
