Dear CCP,

Recently you guys have been trending towards UI changes that are more form over function. Stuff that used to be a single click, or easy to find is now buried in submenus and several clicks away.

Incarna was a major example of this with space barbie in a single closet, but with really poor movement controls, and high gfx requirements for very little gained in functionality.

This also occurred with the website by removing the side menu and splitting the thing into multiple pieces, for no good reason from what I can see.

The unified inventory seems to be yet another example of this where functionality that served its purpose was changed into something more complicated, but less functional.

I think you guys can do better. I think you can deliver both form and functionality, but that doing so may require longer design and development periods than your current "Agile" sprints allow.

Please slow down, and instead of delivering stuff no one really asked for that doesn't help the players.

That's because CCP hardly does any studies measuring player experience and satisfaction. And it's a simple fact that most of the devs almost never actually play the game (any more).

I hate to agree with you but this is one time where I think CCP should really ask for the players help.

They have already asked for players to design ships.
I believe if they asked the players to come up with a UI design we could end up with something really interesting.

It am sure it will end up being a hybrid of CCP ideas and what can be done along with the players dream of the ultimate UI.

I will guarantee that some of the ideas just won't be feasible but still.

I wonder if CCP would consider such a thing.

Granted this would mean a major UI change probably won't happen for about a year.
But I am will to wait that long for something really nice.
We have lived this long with the current UI what is another year to get it right.

I've never met a more rigid bunch of prudes as I have in EVE online. In fairness, EVE online also the only game where 2 years of work can vanish because of a UI glitch and the company running the game will shrug and say tough.

Hearing a lot of people say they like the new inventory interface and a lot of people say they dont like new inventory interface. I'm one of the oldies that doesnt like the new interface.

Why dont I like the new inventory?

It's slow. Every single time you dock in a station that has a lot of stuff in it the interface has to load it all up and I am just sitting there waiting. Old interface would load it once per log in session.

The new interface takes up more screen realestate than the old interface. To make the new interface usable in a station that contains a large amount of items ( yes I have multiple station warehouse cans to store my stuff ) I have to make the interface nearly as tall as my screen so I am not trying to grab a tiny little scroll bar button the size of a flea.

Everytime I go into a can to view mods, ammo, etc, and want to back out of it so I can go into another can, I have to grab the flea sized scroll button and scroll back up to the top click the root of the station inventory. Then of course if what I want to see is at the bottom of that scrolling list, have to scroll some more. I'm constantly scrolling and scrolling in stations that have large inventories to get anything done. Old way was double clicking a can and a new window pops up, double click another can and a new tab with that can name pops up on the previously new window. Then just click whatever tab name I want. Easy as pie.

Of course I realize that I am an old veteran who is used to using the old interface and the Eve motto is "Adapt or Die", so I will adapt while I grumble something to the effect of "damn kids get off my lawn" while trying to remember where I put my wallet for 20 minutes only to realize its been in my back pocket the whole time.

Old folks, we are so resistant to change.

Some of you people place far too much value on your own input. Running a competition for players to design a ship is a gift to the players, not a sign that CCP is incapable of doing so themselves. An awful lot of you are suffering from delusions of grandeur and you look damned foolish.

And as for the idiot who claims that it is a fact that the Devs don't play anymore, please provide signed and dated evidence to back up your claim, or kindly stop using your anal cavity and rectal muscles as a replacement for your mouth and vocal chords.
