For all the Roleplayers out there who remember AURORA days...

Long long ago when my alt used to be my main character, I remember being involved in an official AURORA roleplay event.
I was a member of a small Amarr roleplaying corp and we got involved in an event which involved us escorting a couple of freighters full of freed slaves to a certain location. Our goal was to defend the freighters and get them to their destination safely.
Other corporations were involved in this event and the outcome was reported in the main EVE news columns. It was so exciting, more so than any other aspect of EVE I have ever been involved with.

I know AURORA does no longer run these events and it is such a shame. EVE is marketed as a game where ''your actions have direct/tangible effects' etc... but what can be more involving and have more effect than changing the outcome of an official CCP driven stroyline??

Us roleplayers are a dying breed and these days RP pretty much involves posting in IGS forum and having RP/IC chat channels. For a game so rich in lore, history, stories, it is such a waste for it to have to be resigned to 'LoooLZZzzz i p0pped uR sh1p U nubZZZZ!!!!1111'.

If any of you are keen roleplayers and long for some player driven RP storylines whereby we can create our own goals and work together/against one another and enjoy some RP fluff then please god feel free to contact me. I already have a short list of pilots who I know will be interested in this (mainly from faction warfare, this includes my enemies since they have some good guys who regularly post in IGS, expect to be contacted soon you bloody liberals!).

I dont quite know what we can come up with but it must be worth a try since CCP dont provide much for us in this respect anymore

Also, feel free to share any of your RP/AURORA stories so we can have multiple nerdgasms with each other

Everything would get ganked.

That's today's EVE society. It's a shame.

Because that's not true PVP, it has nothing to do in the game, HTFU. and the goons would gank everyone just because they are bored.

Welcome to EvE Online. Enjoy your stay.

EDIT: That being said, if something like that happen again, i would love to be part of it.

The bartender asks, "why the long face?"

The Caldari, incapable of understanding the concept of humor, draws his sidearm and shoots the bartender in the throat.

Well personally I think it's more fun to be involved with the outcome of player driven content rather than some contrived and inconsequential scenario made up by CCP, like some kind of puppet show that has no bearing on how people actually play the game.

When CCP advertises the game, and how you can shape events, they're always talking about PvP and player driven content.

You defended some NPC freighters... thats cool, but where were you when Jita burned in the shadow of the CFC's tornado fleet? Where were you when the once invincible technetium cartel Northern Coalition was crushed by the Drone-Russian invasion?

Real history and real events are made by players, not CCP.

Good post Jafit.

And Commissar Veldt, there are far more roleplayers out there then many think there are. Even quite a few who claim to look down on roleplayers. You just need to broaden your RP perspective a bit more.

Jaffit gave a few nice expamples that fit quite nicely within the common view of roleplay and the hardcore l33t rp version you appear to dislike.

You go your corridor but.

Well those events actually involved PVP. Players/Corps interested in escorting freighter to free the slaves had to defend and Players/Corps interested in stopping slaves from being freed would attack. Its PVP with added bonus of depth and story for the true nerdcore amongst us.

Either way, be nice to actually get in touch with other pilots interested and hear what people have to say.

Saying that basically 'everyone gets ganked so whats the point' can apply to anything in game so thats not even a factor to consider. If losing ships bothered me I would have quit playing years ago.

Oh and thank you for the welcome to EVE, not patronising at all! Big smile

I've always found the player driven content to be extremely lacking, but I guess that's why none of you are writing any best-selling novels or scripts for the best tv dramas or upcoming movies. It's hard to take anything happening out in null seriously when you have alliance names like Goonswarm and Test Alliance Please Ignore. (No offense, just pointing out it's hard to find the immersive element in a story that includes major players and large organizations whose names were obviously not meant to be taken seriously.) Couple that with the fact that people often do things just for the sake of doing things (AAA recently stating they started a fight over a tech moon but it really wasn't worth it and they were starting a fight just for the sake of starting a fight comes to mind), you suddenly have a whacky zany story crafted by a five-year old with no point, no plot, off-base characters and a baffling conclusion.

So close...

All fine examples and fair enough yeah im sure you had fun with jita/NC and the countless other events that poeple will post

This thread was intended for anyone interested in building some action around the in game fiction and just having bit of fun with likeminded pilots. Wasnt intended to start debates about what events in game are more fun than others.

Was simply an attempt to reach out to anyone interested in doing something like I said.

The goons are the best roleplayers, I hear they're incredibly articulate, reasonable people outside of eve.

They are marvellous at staying in their "Ebil space terrorists" characters here though. Like the Robert Downey Jr. of the eve world, they stay in character to levels above and beyond the call.

These events were run by player volunteers. Those player volunteers would tip off their friends so they were always in place to complete the event first and get the rewards. Instead of fixing the corruption CCP just shut them down.

Some of my favourite moments were in CCP organised events. Not the big ones but the smaller ones which were more specific to groups like Ushra'Khan (Muritar), Blood Inquisition (Blood Wars)....not for the masses.

Sadly all that is gone now due to insider issues. It really made the NPC factions come alive and you could be part of it.
