These sorts of patent debates go back at least to Thomas Edison v Nikola Tesla.

Sad that people cannot think up an original idea, or, admit that Apple got it right and everyone else screwed up or didn't have the resources to commit to an R&D plan for tablets.

Because everything Apple has ever made is in no way shape or form an iteration of a previously established concept. Everything they have ever made has never been done before, they are the truly creative people, and everyone else is riding on their coattails, AMIRITE?

Twist words much?

'back when the original iPhone was released, there were no phones that had touch-screen and a decent user interface. Yes, I consider that a first, with stacks of R&D behind it.

Whereas the real phone manufacturers like blackberry and Nokia didn't commit enough to developing new technology. The shareholders can clearly see that Nokia screwed up and are loosing market share at an exponential rate.

Tablets are similar, no one was even thinking about committing to that market and they took it by storm.

There is room in the market for more competition - but until they make something which is original, they are looking at the crappy end of a law suit.

Actually, Nokia had one. I owned it. I don't recall the model name right now, and I can't be arsed to go look it up for the likes of you. Stylus phones have been around for a while before that.

Again, all Apple has ever done is refine already existing technology. Then call "foul" when others do the same.

You clearly know more than I do on this topic - so I'll step aside to your knowledge on the history of mobile phone technology.

I would say this: if any other technology existed prior to Apple entering the smartphone market, why is everyone copying the design, GUI layout and general phone look of an iPhone and now, iPad?

Hell, I'll go further and say that companies appear to even cop their promotional videos on their websites, namely Dell and HP.

Apple are doing something right and I wish I bought shares in them 10 years ago, when they were still the poor underdogs.

HTC Touch screen smart phones where on the market five years before Apple entered that market, they didn't actually release any products under their own name though, all of the where made for the various mobile networks. Most where combinations of PDA+Phone (IE Smartphone) and used Windows mobile.

The technology behind the hardware and OS was limited but it was 10 years ago so what do expect.

Clueless, maybe, fanboi? Nah - I got an iPhone nearly two years ago after testing the Market and finding it wanting. So, my opinions are two years old at worst in specific regards to the smartphone Market.
Maybe when I change my phone my phone I might find my opinion changes.

This is incorrect. It was attempted, but never took off due to cost and limitations of software and handwriting recognition, not lack of commital. There have been tablet PCs out for a long time now, iPad is nothing new, and honestly a piece of ****. There was a Macbook turned into a tablet by some random company years before apple did the iPad. Microsoft attempted to bolster the tablet PC thing long before Apple even dreamed of the iPad.
