Multi-spectrum sensors or site-specific sensors (gravimetric sensors, ladar sensors, etc)?

I've gone through several threads but I can't seem to find the answer I need.
It seems like a multi spectrum sensor ECCM Omni I, boosts gravimetric, ladar, radar, magnetometric strengths by 80%
but a magnetometric sensor like ECCM Magnetometric I only boosts magnetometric strength by 80%

So why should I use site specific sensor?
Is there any downside for using a multi-spectrum sensor?

There are no reason what so ever to use Omni ECCM as it uses double the amount of cap with 0 benefits. Your ship has 1 sensor type that is the only type that will be tested against no matter that type of ECM the opponent is using. So boosting Magnetometric sensors on a caldari ship does nothing. 0*1.8 = 0

It seems like you were talking about electronic warfare..
so, ECCM cannot be used as a signal boost for scanning probes?

No ECCM has no effect on your probes. It does reduce your signal size which means you become a bit harder for other people to find with probes but again there are no reason to use Omni for this.

ECCM is for Electronic warfare, every race has a different sensor type, Gravimetric, Ladar, Radar, Magnometric. Similar to the exploration site names but not the same.

One thing to note as well is that the names of the sites (Ladar etc) relate back to the previous probe system where you had specific Ladar, Radar etc probes. In the current one you have just Core and Combat probes so the names doesn't really make much sense anymore.

ECCM is to counter ECM (ECCM = Electronic Counter counter measures - ECM = Electronic counter measures)

ECM means jamming, so people can use ECM modules on you, if they do it means you can't target anything (For instance they use Gravimetric ECM against Caldari ships).

Each ship comes with a Sensor strength, the higher it is, the harder it is to jam (ECM) the ship.

ECCM just adds value to your sensor strength, making it even harder to jam you.

not to hijack the thread but does the ECCM/sig radius trick still work to become unprobable?

No you can not become completely unprobable anymore but you can get low enough that the one searching will need max skills + faction probes + virtue implant set to find you.

For improving your scanning probes strength, you can fit Gravity Capacitor Upgrade rigs to your ship. There's also the Poteque series of implants.
