Overheated DRONES!!!!

It looks like CCP wants to attempt a balance between the weapon types as best it can ... with the introduction of drone damage modules and t2 drone utility mods in recent history (drone link augmenter II and omnidirectional II). and as a person that really loves his domi's its good to see some love come to the drones.

with all these buffs to drones i can definatly see people using more drones and droneboats .... which goes back to the original reason CCP changed how drones work a long time ago with the creation of bandwidth and 5 max per boat(not including carrier types with good reason) ...... is because drones cause lag en masse .... and lag = bad.

while CCP is currently in the spirit of balancing drones i would like to make a suggestion

OVERHEATED DRONES!

A simple overheat active drones button added to the commands of drones! drones would do equal % in increased damage + speed as to what turrets do when they are overheated ... give or take for balance purposes ..... i am guessing 20% increase? ... drones can be overheated for up to 1 minute before overloading and popping on their own .... or maybe a 40% increase to speed and damage for 30-45 seconds ..... besides less drones = less lag ... and in a blob fest most people die and their drones become inert on the field ... in a big fleet fight this can lead to lots and lots of abandoned drones all over the field due to the drones ship was popped or he had to warp away ect ect .....

wouldnt you overheat your drones if your going down along with everything else in an attempt to go down in flames as best as you can?

granted this idea just popped in my mind and i havent thought out all of the balancing factors .... i am sure CCP can do a much better job on that then me. but the benefits are undeniable. people overheating there drones until they pop for that extra dps to bring a target down before they do or for the speed increase so their hobgobs(damn fergot to bring warriors again!) can get a 20% speed boost in an attempt to pop that annoying frig that is kiting you. lots of scenario's where this is a win for CCP and players ... more drones going pop in battles = less lag and less abandoned drones on the field ... overheating drones for more damage and speed will result in more ship kills. and this will create a higher demand for drones which will be a boost to the economy. and we will have achieved a higher level of balance as i believe drones are the only weapon system that cannot be overheated?(not 100% sure correct me if i am wrong)

Fighters and bombers could work as well but thats some expensive overheating hehe ..... but hey if your thanny/nyx is about to go down anyway might as well do it just to deny lootz to the enemy right? =)


we can use our current thermodynamics skill to judge how long the drones can be overheated in the same way turrets are.

this would also seemingly be a small indirect buff to gallente as they tend to have more drones USUALLY ... and tbh gallente are still in need of some buffing due to blasters being a small gang niche weapon for the most part and rails still are not that good. IMO +1.

Interesting concept...

Has a nice drawback that if you overheat too long, you lose the drone.

Love the idea of overheating drones. :Cool

If overheating drones too much results in drone destruction, that's a clever way to add risk as a trade off for the benefit. It would be interesting to see how much overheating might improve drone performance, depending on drone type (dps/ecm/web/salvage). This would really make drones more fun!

I hope that CCP thinks about this fine idea!
