My first BPO

So while running missions, I got my 1st BPO. I was going to sell it and didn't see it on the market. I checked contracts and there are maybe 9 contracts for it, but for a copy not the original. Copies are selling at 400 million? And the item itself is on the market with a lot of orders daily being filled, selling at 9 million each. I looked at making a copy, the wait time is at around 10 days to before I can make a copy. Any thoughts on what I should do here? Should I sell it, copy it, or do some more online research into what invention and efficiency does for me? I haven't done any industry yet, so I was thinking maybe giving that a go. /shrug

Note: I am withholding the name right now simply because I don't want a flood of emails with offers if it is in fact a rare bpo.

Newbie, so take my answer with a grain of salt. ;)

I would think it depends on what kindof player you are: If you are more interested in the PVP-side of EVE, try to turn it into ISK to fund your pewpew.

If you are more into industry, definetely keep it, maybe even don't sell the copies you make from it but produce the final product yourself.

If you try to do both a bit - a bit pvp, a bit industry - I guess I would keep it, learn researching and sell the copies. Should provide a stable income for a bit of pewpew.

The only bpo's in game are for tech 1 and some tech 2 stuff. If it's a faction bp then it's a copy as there are not bpo's for faction items. Especially not for ships.

You clearly aren't set up for either manufacturing or copying the BPO, so the obvious suggestion is to sell. But you need to establish what it is worth before you even attempt that. So you are going to have to post what it is, either here or on Eve Marketplace and accept the flood of Eve Mails and offers that may come.

You might want to try a price check here, possibly posting on a throwaway alt, if you are worried about the spam: https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=topics&f=280

You might want to check out this site to see what the times are for carrying out the optimal ME and/or PE research. This will add value to the BPO, a one off research job may be worth the wait for a slot. However, if the BPO is as valuable as it appears, the buyer is going to be a serious industrialist with his own POS and research and copy slots. So don't overestimate it's value, a ten day wait and seven days of research might be worth it. A ten day wait and seven months of research would not.

Don't take what you see in contracts as proof of value, many of them are scams or by people not having the first clue what it is worth and just wildly guessing, then others hop on the bandwagon and post similar contracts assuming the first is fair. It strikes me as suspicious that a BPC will sell for 400M but the finished article for only 9M. How many runs do these copies have remaining? They would need 45 runs just to cover the cost of the BPC without taking account of the mats.

OK, my bad. I thought last night it was a BPO but now looking at it, it is indeed just a BPC. Boo. It has 300 runs, so I will just go ahead and make the items to sell. Thank you all for your input. I will pay closer attention next time too.

Do the mathes before you start manufacturing. Some of the faction BPCs that you get from the Cosmos missions are never worth the cost of the mats to produce. Remember to factor in 1.33M for each run just for the cost of the BPC if it really is worth 400M. That leaves you a margin of just 7.67M per item, so don't even consider manufacturing if the mats total up to greater than 6M per run.
