Questions about Jabber....

So all the major alliances now a days are using Jabber. I hear it is an exellent way to talk to people out of the game, so I looked into it. I decided it is something I'd like my corp to have. I know absolutely nothing about server architecture so I clearly want to rent one. It is hard to find information about servers if you don't want to build your own so I'm reaching out to see what people know. What am I looking at for prices and capacity for about 100 people? what sompanies offer such a service?

30 seconds on the Goon jabber server would put you off this plan.

TS (TeamSpeak) is much easier and would easily accommodate your 100 or so.

You are dumb. TS and Jabber serve two different purposes.

it's not worth it. As The Apostle said, TS3 is fine.

Jabber is only used by several alliances to get people logging in

Keep in mind we have a TS. I'm talking about instant mesaging out of the game. Also with my corp and associates, the number of people using it would be no more than 100. We have been looking for a good way to communicate out of game and get people logged in at the right times.

No info on servers for you, sorry. But I can confirm that Jabber is very useful to get people to log in, with the caveat that there had better be something awesome happening when you send out a ping. Another cool thing is Jabber clients for smartphones: so you can ping members even when they're AFK.

jabber is key, you can jabber at work and when you don't want internet nerd voices screeching out of your computer

Which is why I want one. I'm guessing the alliances just build their own server but unfortunately I don't know how to do that Sad

Go to Jabber.org and go from there.

Also you must have a Dungarmatic.

Dungarmatic is key.

You could always use IRC if you can't figure it out. The nice thing about big alliances is that they will always have a few system admins within them to sort all of that **** out.

So I was right about you being dumb. Also...you really aren't ignoring me.

And another thing. Jabber is used for both "talking to people out of the game" and "instant messaging". You should probably learn more about it before pretending to be an expert on the subject and giving horrible advice.

you forgot to teach him about timezones like in all other threads you commented.

how to fix eve: 1) remove ECM 2) rename dampeners to ECM 3) add new anti-drone ewar for caldari 4) give offgrid boosters ongrid combat value

I'm hoping he finally figured them out. If not I can always provide some more lessons.

May I ask what Dungarmatic is?
