Inferno Looting

I was very excited to download the new patch and check out all the new features. Many of which are a huge win. Beautiful update overall... with one exception... The new Inventory System.

Overall it is a huge improvement, but as a mission runner/salvage operator it is absolutely untenable when cleaning up missions. It's slow and, even worse, buggy. In high-pressure situations, with the current system, the new system will very likely cause unnecessary character deaths.

When I click on a can in space, the last thing I expect to see is my ship's inventory. It doesn't make sense.

After running L4 Angel Extravaganza and bookmarking the rooms, I started to loot each one and since there was early down-time, I had a clock ticking and wanted to do it as fast as possible. I grabbed my Noctis and flew to the last room started tractor beaming in wrecks and salvaging as fast as possible. When I had a pile of about 10 cargo containers, I quickly double clicked through them and assumed that it would open multiple cargo containers... it opened my ships cargo bay and then sat there for many seconds 'thinking' then it opened a cargo container. LOOT ALL didn't always close the cargo container and worse yet, trying to zip through them created a situation where no containers would pop, my tractor beams locked up, and my warp drive became unusable. I had a screen full of cargo and loot and couldn't even warp out. I had to force quit my client.

When I warped back in, I only opened 1 cargo at a time, looted it and then manually closed the wrecks. It easily added 10-15 minutes to the process and slowed me down enough that I was more concerned with my safety than with a little bit of scrap.

There has to be a solution, though I'm not sure even how to begin addressing it. Maybe an option to use the old system in space and the new system while docked? A combination of the new system with an option to use the old on on wrecks?

Overall it's a fundamental improvement. Would love to see it work a bit faster and with some customization/preference options.

It's all part of CCP's plan to combat mudflation. Deal with it.

A professional astro-bastard was not available so they sent me.

I don't have any idea what you are talking about.

I have the exact same problem. My screen freezes for 8 seconds while waiting to loot each can. easily making salvaging much more trouble than its worth. I think I'm putting my salvage alt on ice till this is changed back. The reason I salvage is cause it takes me 1/2 the time it takes to finish a mission. but now with all the bugs and lag it takes longer to salvage than it does to finish the mission making it totally unprofitable. I'm going back to semi afk mission running while watching tv with one account.

Don't be in such a hurry. There's a moment while the thing registers what you put in. Hit "Loot All" and wait for the window to close. You can salvage Extravaganza in no time. It wasn't wise to familiarize yourself with a new method under a stopwatch.

If you don't like what CCP is selling, don't buy it.

That is the great thing about gaming as a service, if they don't give you what you want, stop giving them what they want (money).

Best way to send a message with love.

Frankly, CCP CANNOT absorb customer churn, that was demonstrated during Incarna, their "multi accounts per person" business strategy (greed) is VERY VERY fragile in that way :) That gives us the customer the upper hand against CCP. And they know it, or should be reminded from time to time should their greed/arrogance take over them again (and it does).

Nothing like a few more lay-offs to say "we don't like your product".

If you like the game it would be better to convince them to fix it rather than put them out of business. But yeah STO is starting to look more attractive every time I open my inventory or loot anything. With the 2m war dec fee its already destroyed all the corps I have belonged to. Makes me miss the team work of STO. I know they tried to fix the war dec thing which is great but it may be a bit too little too late. I have no interest in joining any corps anymore. If I want teamwork and friends I have other games that are more friendly to teams. Eve is committed to breaking up noob corps and all the others are way to intrusive. They want all my info and 3-10% of my income. That would be a big fat NO WAY. Anyway all this ranting is boring me. Going back to mission running and thinking about STO every time I try to access a wreck.

It should just be as it was when you loot a can or a wreck in space.
And then press loot all. And then it close that window.
End of story.

Another thing I would like personally is that the inventory is that same as it was before Inferno. But that is more because I liked having it open without all that.. Extra stuff there is know. (Probably me there just need to get used to this part)

But the main problem is the looting, and that is what CCP should focus on.

It is slightly annoying but you can just open a new window (just as it was before Inferno) by pressing shift while double-clicking on the can/wreck. That way you don't open the cargo hold...in theory. It sometimes still opens it so I just open the cargo hold when undocking and then minimize it. After that it stays minimized when opening cans/wreck with shift. Definitely something that should be fixed but at least it has an easy workaround.

My salvage method was almost unaffected by the new inventory system.

1) While traveling, open an inventory window, make it small and minimize the tree, move it close to the overview.
2) Target 8 items.
3) Set the tractors on the rightmost 4, F1-F4 (Salvagers are F5-F8).
4) When the items being tractored are in loot range, hit F1 through F4.
5) Click on the right most targeted item, hit F8.
6) Click on the next targeted item to the left, hit the next f-button to the left.
7) Repeat step 6 six more times. One hand on the keyboard, one on the mouse, both going step by step right to left. You now have 4 items being salvaged and 4 more on tractor.
8) As each item salvages out and becomes a can, double click on it in the overview, click loot all.
9) Once everything has salvaged out and been looted, target 4 more items.
10) Go to step 4. No need to wait for the targeting process to complete, it will be done before you set a tractor on those new items.

The good: When I'm not looking at a can in the inventory, I see the value of the loot Ive gotten so far. Watch it pile up!
The bad: It takes longer for the can to open and close, but as not all wrecks salvage out the first cycle, its rare that I get behind.

Yeah, that's the problem. Everything takes longer. Your method is almost identical to mine.

Even when NOT under a stopwatch, I find the new system remarkably more cumbersome. It takes roughly three times as long to clear a stack of cannisters as it did previously. That is a significant step backwards.

Can I live with it? Sure.
Am I happy about it? No way.

Edit: to be clear: Not three times as long to salvage the wrecks, but to access and collect the contents. It's been a long time since I've been successfully ninja'd, but the new system opens that door a bit wider.

*shrug*
As noted, I'll deal with it.

This is somewhat my method too; however, I open a lot of loot cans at once.

Old method: Loot cans stacked and pressing the "loot all" button close the upper most can and cycles to the next lower can.
This process was repeated until all cans were looted. Very time saving and hassle free.

New method: Looting is the same; however, the cycle of the loot cans goes directly back to my cargo hold loot window and not to the next loot can in sequence. This forces me to find the next loot can and loot it as a separate function.

Small adjustment for the inventory window to cycle to the next to last opened inventory window after the loot can despawns would correct this inefficiency.

You don't need to see a stopwatch when you open a wreck and your game freezes for 8 seconds or more. In which time your salvager finishes salvaging and the wreck closes..... screen freezes again while loading ships cargo..... open the can now and screen freezes for another 8 secs. you hit loot all then the screen freezes again while loading ships cargo...... this is on each and every wreck now because the ui refuses to open more than one at a time. I'm putting my salvage alt on ice till one of two things happen. I get a faster computer or ccp reverts back to the old ui... As I am currently unemployed I won't be getting a faster computer for a long time. I make so much in bounties I will prolly keep it active just to keep training but my style of gameplay is going to change to a more afk mission running style for bounties only.
