Market Manipulation in Lonetrek?

I am mostly based in Lonetrek and I have noted some good market manipulation over the last few months, that I have exploited secondarily.

The regional average for a module priced around a million or two suddenly goes way high for a few days, like 6-10m. The item continues to sell at this price for a few days and then returns to normal.

I presume that the manipulation is done by identifying an item with low numbers on the market, then setting up many very high sell orders to increase the regional average? Would one need to set up high buy orders as well for this manipulation?

Whoever's doing this, thanks :)

Regional average is determined by executed orders, not posted orders.

So in theory all you need is to sell yourself a very exepnsive item to skew the averages.

I remember a guy buying an iteron mark 2 for 500M in essence, that caused the average to be broken for several days.
Getting the price up is one thing, Making sure people continue to buy it is another :)

And I presume that this is not an exploit.... (off to look for a suitable item to manipulate)

If that was an exploit then I think half of the people in MD would be banned by now Cool.

This is why the 'regional average' should be ignored. Check the price history of an item you are unfamiliar with.

In the cat-and-mouse game that is low sec, there is no shame in learning to be a better mouse.

Most people don't sell based on the average, but on the lowest prices. (Or lowest reasonable prices, if, for example, someone is selling one unit for a large percentage below everything else.)

Most likely what happened was someone bought up all the stocks of that good and resold them at a higher price, followed by others selling off those goods at a higher price. As competition picks up (industrialists usually change their production based on the most profitable deals to be had), the price will continue to drop, until it gets back to its pre-manipulation value. At which point someone usually comes along and buys up the market again after the large quantities that came from overproduction go down.
