well, one of my alts finally finished the last chapter needing a cruiser with 170dps (as listed ingame fitting)...it was hellacious as "Dagan" seemed to increase his shield boost rate to insane levels every time i got him into armor. Patience, and lots of cap boosts, saw me through this combat.

but, omg, it was extremely frustrating...i'm not sure a lesser ship could have done it (destroyer/frigate)...i was using tech1 non-metanamed modules to keep it on the cheap.

Omen
5 focused pulse lasers - multifreq
10mn afterburner
1 medium cap booster with 200 charges
1 small cap bosoter with 200 charge
1 damage control
1 medium armor rep
1 energized adaptive nano
2 heat sinks
---- no rigs ----
3 hobgoblins

at just under 7 million isk. I'm sure i could have melted the bugger using tech2 gear but as it stands it was a near run thing. But, yeah, that Dagan guy's shield boost varies.

And that is why it states in the mission briefing that you are better of doing that mission with others in a small fleet.

That mission is made to make new players understand that EVE is a MMO and should be played while interacting with others.

yup. if i was a recruiter that would be the #1 spot to hang out. The agent in space (1 of 4)

That depends on what kind of players you are recruiting.

Want PvP, Mission runners, Miners, Incursion runners, Ratters, Industrialists, Pirates, etc. etc.
Want new players, want old players, want bitter vets.

All different types of stuff you can recruit and older players etc usually don't hang around SoE spots.

So how come loads of players do it solo, and many of them in a frigate?

Never said it wasn't possible.

But like many other part of the tutorials etc that CCP made, it has flaws.

The idea CCP had was that the Dagan mission would have been done with a group of people, yet it is possible to do solo

I did this mission on my alt with another newbie with 2 destroyer(1 coercer and 1 cormorant). Around 120-140 dps together. It was hard to go trough his shield, as you say he regen pretty fast, but we did, with less than 1 week old chars.

I believe it's possible to solo this in a frigate, with more skills and t2 stuff on it...

Not true.

Yes, it is possible with frigate. Dagan has quite strong tank. Probably easiest way to do it in frigate is to use assault frigate. For new player it is still easier to use destroyer/cruiser and team up with other new player.

Older players don't usually refuse if they get a chance to shoot Dagan with battlecruiser or battleship. For the very same reason all new players have difficulties with this guy. Just be careful when asking older player to help you.

Hmm I did it as a noob, I was 12 days old on a trial sub and I had a destroyer. How many skills could I have at 12 days old?
Not too many. I was tech one on everything but I did have some meta 3 and 4 stuff on my destroyer. I trained the minimum skills to fit those meta 3 and 4's. Speed was the main thing i used and got in close. I remember I needed at least 150dps to kill him any less and he could tank it. I had to tank as well I had a 200mm armor plate and armor repair on my destroyer. All of my skills were only level 3 or less. And I did it solo without reading ahead on wiki or any experienced player how to do this mission help. Tricks I used, keep speed high and close orbit have high tracking guns and as high damage as possible need at least 150 dps. I think I only had 6 or 7 guns fitted because that was all my skills could fit at the time on the destroyer with a tank. Use a drone to help get to that 150 dps. I was not cap stable and had to run away and recharge and come back 3 times before I beat him but I did it. At 12 days old options are very limited on what you can use so you have to make the best use of what you do have and make up for the rest with pilot flying skill. If you can not fit at least a 150 dps weapon loadout with high tracking then you will not be able to beat him. He will tank it and worse if you try to stand off at long range he will out dps you in almost anything you can fly at 12 days old. You have to get in close and be able to tank the damage he does on the way in.

Note: I could not fly a cruiser at 12 days old. Maybe some people can but I did not have that skill and if I did somehow, it would have not been worth much more than being able to sit in it. Not only that but a true noob has little clue about how to max out skills to get the most out of them at 12 days old anyway.

An experienced player making a new alt and doing this mission is a whole different story line. They already know what skills to train and have access to expensive weapons that noobs only dream about.

My post is not about how easy this mission is or is not. It is simply to say that a true noob at 12 days old can do this mission solo with the tools he/she aquires during the first 12 days of playing EVE. But it is not going to be easy.

Just killed him in a Thrasher. Using Gallente commander, and right after Inferno update launched.

200mm Autocannons 1 loaded with Fusion s
Nosferatu 1

Cap recharger
Shield booster
Afterburner

2 Gyrostabilizers

I killed him and his gang without having to reload. I took out the gang members first, then orbited him at 1000m, with afterburner on, and just waited for him to go down. I did have to repair my shields and I used the Nos to recharge my cap.

This was a biotch. I tried it several times with destroyer and cruiser. I couldn't get through his shields. Finally read about the fit, above, on the old forums and I had most of the modules already so I fitted up and finally made it with this setup.

I started the guns firing on him with 4 sec gaps between starting each cannon. I didn't need to reload, but if I had, this would have kept him from repairing all his shield while I reloaded.

"I'd rather be pissed off then pissed on"

"This is one of those times when it's important to know the difference between 'then' and 'than'."

You need to select a navy you are not associated with when they give you the choice.

I know it sounds wierd but dagans tank is determined by which agent you choose to help.

So if you choose Amar navy and your flying a ship that uses lasers dagan will be tanked EM them weak, Exp kin

I got lucky the first time I ran through it was with a gallente character flying a vexor so I just switched out for a different damage type drone and smoked Dagan.

This may be the problem you ran into.

Noir. and Noir Academy are recruiting apply at www.noirmercs.com I Noir Academy: 60 days old must be able to fly at least one tech II frigate. I Noir. Recruits: 4:1 k/d ratio and can fly tech II cruisers.

Yep, he reverses the T2 resist profile.

However, he also gives a huge boost to your faction standings, so you want to choose Amarr if you want to be an Amarr PVE character.

Find a friend. 2 people in Coercers should put him down in about 90seconds.

Also remember differential maths: if you are doing 160dps and he tanks 150 then you are only applying 10dps.

Grab an hour old newbie in a Rifter doing 30dps and you've just decreased the time to kill him by a factor of 4.

Take a friend, it's always the answer.
Failing that, make a friend, then take a friend.

Most people you'll meet doing the Arc are newguys like yourself, OP.
