Well actually, (except for PvP; i.e: Fighter), andy one of those professions by itself is boring as hell. I have to do more than one thing to keep me interested. I can't afford to PvP all the time either, so I need other things to do and often enough corpmates or whatever need someone to do other things too.

Here's a bit of my logic; some of it should be fairly obvious:

~ Anchoring 5 and Starbase Defense Management 5 - fairly simple: Bubbles, POS defense, bonus of being a prereq for some other skills.

~ Drones - Always useful and plan on training more now I'm spec'd for it. Respec was a week ago about.

~ Electronics - Most of these should be fairly obvious as Core skills. Electronic Warfare to 5 because it is prereq. for some drones and a good skill, other EWARs decent for basic spec and particularly target painitng because it is always useful. Long Range Targeting and Signature Analyisis because they are good skills and Prereq for Logi. Actually not big on flying Logi, but you never know, might be useful.

~ Engineering - Again, mostly self-explanatory Core skills. Energy Emission Systems because they're awesome; Cap stuff because I could, so I plugged them in.

~ Refining and Production Efficiency because they are always useful and Prereq. for some other skills. Mining stuff is just basic stuff, (not big on it but it might allow for some alternative stuff). Also, I have BPOs and can manufacture and sell to raise ISK here and there.

~ Leadership - This is as high as it's going and was my first Respec I trained because it was something I know is always handy to have. Every Fleet needs it, and there is more than just the FC boosting. Could train it up to max. if someone thought it was a good idea, but too much time for maybe. Also: Prereqs.

~ Mechanics - Some self-explanatory, plus overload skills, one I'll likely never need but plugged in because I could and would like to someday, basic rigging, good armor tanking base, etc...

~ Missile Launcher - Probably not going to use the much and only interested in Missile Bombardment to 4 and req. skills for when I do fit that extra launcher or actually hop in that sort of ship.

~ Navigation - Need MOAR! :) Obvious and I plan on training up req. for Black Ops.

~ Planetary Management - I barely use this. Since the changes occured, I find it less interesting, and often I forget to update my stuff. Also, tedious and boring making PI products so I just have Basic Production and haven't yet filled my hangars to bother taking to market, let alone bother picking it up. If it was more profitable maybe, but it's Highsec and I'm used to Wormholes. I can't even see the Commodities on a 0.5 planet without sliding the thing all the way left almost, but then I go for the Felsic Magma types.

~ Science - Some explanatory, like Thermodynamics, Boosters, Jump Clones, Implants, etc.. Also basic Research(BPOs), basic Exploration skills, (Something else I find somewhat lacking), and of course scanning is started with Astrometrics to 5 as a Prereq. for Jump skill(s), and Science as a Preq. for I don't remember what.

~ Social - As much as I imagine I'll ever need. Not sure whay I trained it as.. oh yeah, that was mostly for LP and Faction Rep., plus making mission advan. marginally faster. Not much, and less as I can't be bothered to do Level 1 or even level 2 missions for all the dulldrum they bring. I was spoiled with Level 4s right from the start through friends.

~ Subs - Because I could and had no idea what I wanted to fly then either.

~ Trade - I actually use these. Nothing like trying to throw up 30 random items on market and not being able to put the orders up without spreading them over weeks. Pain in the arse, so I trained them. Also: Saves ISK.

...I guess that's it.

Right, so I was planning on training up the Gunnery supports as I know i'm going to use those. Good advice there; thanks Yumike. Smile Also, Drones until I know for sure what ships I want.

Definitely will be training for BC, Black Ops, Cov Ops, Bomber, and maybe Assault ships, Interceptors, Interdictors. Some of those are fun, and I think I already covered most of the Prereqs for them. Of course, as mentioned, I will be focusing for a bit on the Nav skills. At least enough to give me Tech 2 ABs and MWDs for now.

Still need to figure out what Faction I want, but I suppose I'm partially leaning toward Minmatar again. Maybe Gallente. Not sure about Amarr, but I'll get a better feel for it on my Alt.

Speaking of which, my alts remapped until next year and I doubt he'll be training up many skills against that as it's going to be dreadfully slow with everything in Perception and-mostly-Willpower. I will likely train up some Nav skills on him and of course Engineering to 5 when I get a chance. Don't recall if that opens anything up. Prereq. for AF IIRC.

Thanks for the advice and criticism, (not in a negative way.). Smile

To Mars Theran.

Falkwen can be a bit over critical at times with his words. Please forgive him.

EvE like most games has a great deal of learning and mistakes that can be made from early days of creating your character.

Asheron's Call
Dark Age of Camelot
Lord of the rings online (Less so)

All had a certain amount of early settings defining your path and power.

EvE more so.

I had a character from Beta who up until I stopped to have my baby could fly any ship, fire any weapon from 2003 until 2006. She could build things, mine an dso on. You get the idea. I took a year out and passed her on. At the time she went she had about 60 mill SP. I thought she was good but really what Falkwen said was true. Jack of all trades master in none. She could do many things just not any of them well enough.

So when I came back in 2007 I at first regretted passing her on. She could have recovered and perhaps even I should have kept her as she did have a grounding in all skills at the time. What it told me tho was I knew what I wanted to spec in when starting again. Yes I fell in love with Caldari Ships and missile and yes I did that again and yes its not for everyone but I don't care. What I can do I do very well. I feel in a good place at 85mill SP and most would say I should be in a good place! I cannot fire lasers. I cannot shoot auto cannons. I cannot mine for toffey or build capital ships. But that is not what I wanted to do.

So all in all I suppose what I am trying to say is stick with something.

If you love to build then there are skills for that.

If you love to mine again skill it.

If you love to fight then skill it.

If you love to try them all then skill them all but along the way you wont feel very good or do very well in those areas.

At the end of the day there is no right or wrong way, just your own way. Im just saying from my own point of view. Some will say oh yes thats the way I did it. Others will disagree.

Fly safer than me!

holy cripes, that's the worst skillsheet I have ever seen.

But as you say, no need to be able to actually fly a spaceship in a spaceship game..

cripes.

It is rather funny that I can't fly anything but a basic frigate with 25 mil. SP. Lol

It's funny and quite sad I think you beat everyone in that regard if this is your primary character. If you can't decide on a route to take, train all frigs to IV and all frig weapons to IV and support skills (didnt check if you did for that I just remember the bad spaceship skills) and than go out and actually fly your ship and see what weapon system you like than train that and that races ships.

Welcome to Eve. Everyone here is an Evil Sick Sadistic Bastard who is out to get you. Anyone who tells you otherwise is either trying to scam you or use you.

I think I already mentioned I've trained and used them all, aside from lasers which I have only trained on another character, on other characters. This is actually my third main about, though the first may not have counted. I sold the first main ages ago, and my last around Dec-Jan 2010. I've been training this one since and not particularly interested in flying truth be told.

There is plenty you can do in EVE without flying and I have no pressing need to get into a ship still. Also, if I do I have my 1 alt I can do that with and he's more than qualified to fly them and shoot their guns. Not so much when it comes to keeping them from getting pulled apart by players interested in big pretty sparks and explosions, but thats another thing.

Actually started training Gallente Frigate to 5 today. Should be done in a little over 3 days, and that'll give me Cov Ops, AF, and a few other things. Might train up Gallente Cruisers to 4, and possibly Destroyers and BC after, in the next week or so. Already have S Hybrids 5, (which are better than they used to be), and just need some Drone and Gunnery skills.

I never chose weapon systems for liking them before, but because they were FotM or Wimatar, or because the fits used them the most, (back to Winmatar), although I trained missiles because they were for shooting sleepers or other PvP stuff and fit the skills I had on my old main.

Think this is bad, you should have seen that one. Did most of my tinkering around in EVE on that toon and had more than 220 skills trained with the ability to fly Hulks, Reasearch, Manufacture, Mission, Exploration, Scanning, Corp Management, etc...

No Starbase defense management though I lived out of a POS for over a year; no Anchoring 5 though we used Bubbles plenty; Middling Missile skills though we used them and Tengus for Sleeper killing, No Gunnery skills to speak of except for level 3-4 in the supports and Level 5 plus Spec. in small hybrids, Middling Drone skills, etc.. but hey, I could do other things.

Mining and using Tech II crystals for ABCs which we almost never did, Scanning which I hated after awhile, Gas Mining which was profitable but I usually missed the sites because it was profitable, Max Refine and Reverse Engineer and Manufacture which I never got much chance to do because someone else trained all the same skills, (3 someone else actually), though I did research my cache of ~300 BPOs, (only a few of them worth anything), to some extent the research slots were often offline for Reactions or used for research on ore compression or component BPOs copying or research.

Actually, I usually missed the Sleeper Ops to because I couldn't make it into game on time and they were mostly done or all gone by then. Mostly, I sat in space POS spinning, threw out scan probes and confirmed sigs, and seldom much else. My history with that character and corp was one of slowly playing the game less and less because even though I was CEOof a wormhole Corp there was less and less for me to do as the others either had 2-3 times the SP or trained up skills I specialized in.

If I'd stayed longer, I would have just ended up training strictly PvP skills, but I decided I wasn't interested in playing anymore, moved back to Highsec, unsubbed for 2-3 months and eventually resubbed and sold my toon and started training this one and soon after my new alt.

Dropped all my old accounts because I always suspected they were being hacked or had been compromised because I swear I left them alone for a time here and there and came back to missing SP and skills that I was sure had been trained. Was 5, now 4 scenario. Maybe it was my imagination, but it hasn't happened since.

It's easily possible that, with the amount of times our old Vent got hacked, someone accessed my account and other information and did it for ***** and giggles but I really don't know. The old Vent was accessible to literally everyone in the world because it was a forum/gamer vent with International advertising. We stopped using it eventually, but the damage was done by then I imagine.

Also, my old account names were mostly the same as my forum and Vent name with a 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, etc... you get the picture.. after it. Couldn't be too hard to guess that, and my old passwords were only 6-8 characters, so not hard to crack I imagine. No idea, but I'm guessing easy enough if you have the know how. Much more secure now.

Where was I going with that? ..arghhh..

...

I have no idea; just rattling on I guess. Blink

Yes because it is totally utterly impossible to get CCP to change your account names... (all it takes is a petition).

I wasn't aware of that. Shocked Not that it matters. I'm just hoping that if the Master Account proposition goes through I can delete them.
