Ship spinning was getting dull on my old x48 mb, e8400 wolfdale, and gtx 285 gfx card. Downloading eve client right now, really looking forward to running multiple clients with faster speed than with my old system.

New build now complete:

Coolermaster sniper full atx gaming case
I2700k intel cpu
Coolermaster hyper 212 heatsink/fan
Z77 asus sabertooth motherboard
16 gb g.skill 1866 ddr3 ram
Corsair pro 850 power supply
Evga gtx 680 signature series super clocked gfx card
2x 256 gb ssd crucial drives in raid0

Supreme overkill at its finest for premium ship spinning.

WINDOWS EXPERIENCE SCORES Shocked

ArrowProcessor: 7.7 (seriously? perhaps because I haven't started to overclock yet? stock is 4 cores (8 with hyper threading) at 3.5mghz - oh well, still pretty good but this is the only non 7.9 score (and yes, I enabled all 8 cores in msconfig)
ArrowRAM: 7.9 (mb set ram default at 1600 speed and rating was 7.8 - i adjusted manually to 1866 and re-ran assessment and it re-scored to 7.9
ArrowGraphics: 7.9
ArrowGaming Graphics 7.9
ArrowHard Disk: 7.9 (oh ya baby - those new 6gb sata SSD's in RAID! fast as hell

Because I wasn't smart enough to remove the massive heat sink from my old dell computer in order to correctly reseat the processor, I just went out and got a new cheapy, base line quad core amd processor, 6GB ram and an onboard card....yuck.

So I eventually bought a GTX560Ti, its the best card I've ever owned by at least 200 dollars. Smoothest graphics but it does run a tad hot if I don't manually set the fans to kick into overdrive past 70 C. I tried to buy a souped up case with giant fans but it hasnt seemed to help much, just makes my room get incredibly hot after standing in station for a few minutes.

So close...

I would share my rig but I generally buy year old hardware so its not impressive. Though I do use AMD chips and a stupid big heatsink in an Antec P180 so airflow is the least of my worries

Despite my posting prowess I really am terrible at this game

Would not call that over kill , sounds like a solid machine. quick response, ultra fast loading time, and enough memory to do any thing you want while spinning ships.

congrats on the new build hope you enjoy it for a long time.

Don't feel out of place here. My machine is a ever continuing project that started as a prebuild single core system with 250 g of storage and 2 gigs of ram.

I can't remember all of my specs but it's got one of the older quad cores with a larger heat sink on it. I think the GT 240 is currently in there, just installed 16gigs of Ram, and I have a 1 tb drive all powered by a 900 watt gold series psu and sitting in a hand built plexiglass case.

Sorry I can't be more specific on names, I never really took it heart to memorize my systems stats as I figure nobody would ever quiz me on it.

Kinda recent build:

i7 2600k
Gigabyte GA-Z68XP-UD3P
16GB Kingston HyperX 1333
EVGA GTS 250
OCZ Fatal1ty 750W

Not so awesome...until you compare it to what I was using before:

AMD Athlon 64 3200+
ASRock socket 939 board
2GB Kingston HyperX DDR400
EVGA GTS 250
Some garbage 500W power supply

Single core w/ 2GB to quad with 16GB. Plenty happy until I can afford a new gfx card and some SSDs.

There's a thread for this in OOP already..

that said, where'd you find the EVGA 680? Was in the market but couldn't find them available anywhere so I settled on a 3gb 580.

How many PLEX did this set you back?

I only run full power to ship spin. Can't afford graphical lag when the numbers pop out from the super spin.

There is usually a thread for this at a minimum once a week in oope and at times we can get up to almost a dozen on page 1 due to many of these being transferred from other forums. OOPE is like that little room with the awkwardly place door. There may be some cool things in there but most people don't even know of it's location until its told to them.

firstly, this is general discussion about eve ship spinning, and i happen to post my new build specs... so OOP is not relevant to my thread since i am talking about eve

secondly, i purchased everything at newegg. I guess i got lucky because it was instock, though this version of the 680 was the ONLY model in stock at the time, but luckily, it was the one i wanted.

also, just to add, I finally got the chance to run windows experience rating test...

ArrowProcessor: 7.7 (seriously? perhaps because I haven't started to overclock yet? stock is 4 cores (8 with hyper threading) at 3.5mghz - oh well, still pretty good but this is the only non 7.9 score

Nice build, should look grand. One comment

I said raid was slower, but forgot raid 0. I just don't like it because it is more prone to system problems and failures. Personally, I much prefer setups which certain things just run dedicated drives. Find them very fast and reliable.

interesting, this was my first go at raid0 configuration, but everything I read since that it was more stable and would run faster. also didnt want to break up the two drives. guess time will tell, but thanks for the comment.

it does look pretty sick, and i took some time to organize the cables to avoid the wire / cable clutter.

Client almost done downloading, cant wait.

the reason your windows experience score is low is because the WE score is pretty much ******** and you shouldn't use it to judge the effectiveness of your system.
also, why would you get that case? it looks neat, but it also looks like it will have terrible airflow which will mean that you get scary temps on your CPU/GPU.
also, why do so many people like that cooler? spend a little more and you can get an all in one watercooler that's WAY better. go up to about twice the cost (next to your processor, it's not that bad) and you can get a pretty awesome all in one watercooler. I've got my 2500k running at 4.5 right now and I never go above 50. I was at 4.9 but that was getting a little toasty if I leave it running 100% for a while as it would be going into the low 60s. I have hit 5.2, but just for long enough to do the stress test to prove it. this is all running the corsair H70. but a large part of it is also the case it's in. I have 2 120mm intake fans in the front, 2 140mm out take fans on the top. one 140mm intake fan on the bottom, 1 120mm out take fan on the back with the CPU heat sink attached. thanks to all these fans, and the manner in which they are all set up, it keeps the case slightly pressurized to keep dust out, but also feeds as much air through the case as possible.
basics for the build are
case: fractal design define R3
CPU: 2500k
cooler: corsair H70
video: MSI twin frozr 560TI OC
monitors: dual 1080P 1 24" 1 27"
HDDs: Intel 310 128GB SSD (OS)
WD 640GB black (programs/games[eve included])
4 WD 2TB green
2 WD 1TB black
all fans are noctua high pressure low noise baffled fans.
