That big flat shiny thing shouldn't be there:

I keep getting things like that flash on the screen in random places, mostly around the ship. It happens as soon as I log into the game, and I doubt it's because of running out of memory (1024MB shouldn't be filled up so fast?).

The next pictures are all done without moving my ship nor the camera angle, only zooming in and out:

http://i.imgur.com/P0rAb.jpg (I'm a saint now? :p)
And that's how it should look like: http://i.imgur.com/5QSQv.jpg As I said: there are no objects there, but those random bright surfaces appear.

Those things do not appear when the sun is visible. EDIT: Actually, they do, but less often.

It started to happen yesterday. I restarted my PC, EVE and Catalyst Control Centre. I've tried changing all the setting in CCC and EVE and I ran the Eve Repair Tool.

I run Windows 7 64bit with ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4670 on Acer 8935g.

I've got the same issue. It happens on a pretty beefy 64 bit windows box, and rebooting doesn't seem to help. It doesn't "creep" up and start. It starts right away whenever I have to load bubbles or POS shields.

It does not happen on my other 32 bit windows box that has about 1/2 the speed of my 64 bit box.

CCP - PLEASE FIX THIS BUG.....

I got more awesome demos of eve's faulty graphics in Windows 7 64 bit. Today I experienced something I've never even had before which rendered the game completely useless. After docking I hit the "Captain's Quarters" button and my screen turned to indistinguishable lines and horrible shading rendering nothing hardly visible on the screen, I want a refund.

was suffering from all the same symptoms as described by others here

currently running
Windows 7 64bit
intel core i3-2120
3.3 Ghz
4 gigs of RAM
HD Graphics Family Chipset
touchscreens

2 of these

Possible fix

Change your 'optimize settings' to 'Optimize for Quality'. I know it sounds backwards to add a load to your graphics when it's the graphics that are messed up...but it worked for me. I admit things have slowed down for me some but it beats the hell out of watching the display show two different systems at the same time on my screen while my next jump appears as an asteroid belt while my chat window flashes at me.

Hope it helps someone.

I also can't play eve. I have terrible FPS. The window flickers and then goes black until I boot up in windowed mode.

also on windows 7 64-bit, there is another thread with this, but does anyone else get the issue where they can't start eve in full screen? and then get terrible fps overall recently? I'm running eve at the lowest settings at 25 fps. When I used to get 50 at highest.

Response to in game petition:

Hi,

Please accept out apologies for the inconvenience this issue may be causing. Graphics issues are often caused by corrupted cache and settings so we suggest you start by clearing your cache and settings folders. Here is an article that describes in details how this is done:

http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/Clearing_the_cache_and_settings

If this doesn't help in your case, please refer to the following article on common graphics issues and solutions:

http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/Graphics_Problems#Graphics_problems

If neither of these articles is of help or you have already tried out the steps described there, please reply to this petition again and we will investigate the matter further. When doing so, please remember to attach a DxDiag file to the petition if you have not done so already. Here is an article that explains how this is done:

http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/DxDiag

I'm going to follow these instructions the gm gave me.
Step one clear cache and settings ingame and in the operating system.

1. I cleared everything in game, cache and settings, restated the client twice.
2. I've located the folder %LOCALAPPDATA%\CCP\EVE and renamed it to EVE1

Step two checked the graphical problems wiki
1. I have up to date drivers from nvidia and I know they are 100% i never have shutdowns or random crashes and no other games installed will give me any trouble.
2. I have tried updating and re-installing directx.
3. This machine is completely 100% factory default clock speeds, zero overclocking.
4. I'm not having heat issue, I have applications that read temperatures and they are in line.
5. I recently performed maintenance and cleaned all the dust bunnies out of there.
6. I am the only person that uses this computer, nobody else has access, it has the latest windows 7 updates (licensed copy) latest antivirus definitions, and serves only one purpose, to game on and do some email. I don't run anything in the background that can cause any interference.
7. Seeing that this isn't an isolated issue, I suggest prioritizing this matter immediately.

I'm a computer enthusiast and build my own computers, and I maintain them very well. I keep my drivers current. I perform periodic maintenance. I open the case and blow the dust out every couple months with a compressor. I been doing this for years, I can tell there's something wrong with the client software, because I'm positive there's nothing wrong with my hardware. Balls' in your court CCP, please respond, help solve this.

Glad to see you're working on it, it has indeed been an issue for quite a while. I don't use anti-aliasing and have up to now run on lowest graphics settings. I'm running a single client, previously ran four in window mode, and wanted to experience better graphics for a change. I've resigned to restarting the client after an hour or two, depending on when issues have started to crop up. I hope you find a fix for this soon.

All of those screen-shots duplicate exactly what happens to me.

So far I've played all day, in fullscreen and windows mode after doing those factory settings, and I haven't had a single instance of weird graphical problems like I've been experiencing. This is a good start.
here's my "Display & Graphics" settings

Preset Interval - Interval one
Effects - all on
Misc - Use LOD/ Sun is Occluded by Objects on
Character creation settings - physically simulated cloth and hair on, texture med
Graphic Content Settings-
Load station environment
Anti alias Disabled
Post processing Low
Shader quality High
Texture Quality High
LOD Quality High
Shadow Quality Low
Interior effects Medium
Interior Shader quality Low

These are the settings I got after cleaning cache and settings in game and in windows, and so far it's been smooth.

::Update::

It's happening again, I didn't touch any of the settings, but it's going all weird again. The space background turned brownish and the nebulas are no longer visible. All symptoms as before. Replying to petition.

Some of the screenshots posted here looks like the problem I had.
Using my ATI HD 5800 I had no problems, but when I used the ATi HD2400 I just installed to run the second monitor, i had a lot of glitches.

Turned out the problem was the new ATI drivers (12.4). Downgrading to 12.3 fixed the problem.

I don't think this will fix all af your problems, but some of you might "think" you have the memory problem, while in fact you have a driver problem, so its worth a shot.

When this occures to me; windows resource monitor says that Eve (one client) is using 1,8gb of memory (-which leads absolutely no free memory). For me, rebooting the client doesn't always help. but clearing the cache helps. Tried to get this on logserver, but it ofcourse happens when i'm not running it.

I disagree!

Experienced this issue and had no idea why it was doing this, was after about 2-3 hours of playing. Got into a frigate fight and was losing so started hitting warp to celestial rapidly. Client subsequently locked up and screen turned white and crashed which caused me to lose my pod. Under any other circumstances I would have never lost the pod. Still awaiting petition response after several days and a rapid initial denial that the client is FUBAR at the moment. I will be using this dev response as it admits the client is getting loaded and ready to crash due to unresolved issues out of my control.

The advantage of a bad memory is that one can enjoy the same good things for the first time several times.

One will rarely err if extreme actions be ascribed to vanity, ordinary actions to habit, and mean actions to fear.

OP, this is exactly what's happening with my clients. i have to reboot, but during fleet combat, that's not really a viable option. i don't have a top-of-the-line rig, but it's no slacker:

intel core i5-2500k @ 3.30ghz
16gb ddr3
2 x gtx 480 (1.5gb each, 384 bit each) running in sli
128gb crucial ssd
win 7 pro 64 bit sp1

Now imagine Jita on Burn jita, many explosions outt the undock. This is what i had, but obviosuly for every ship, i couldnt see Squat.

Im also getting it on my Storm Planets now, when they stop extracting & sat idle.

& i was only using 1 client at the time. my GTX580 & Core i7 should & can deal with graphics liek this.

Can we please have an update? A CCP employee at least say hello? Shocked

Hi!

We have looked at this issue for quite some while and we currently assume, that this is caused by running out of memory for creating new textures (as far as I understood it - it is not really my area of expertise). We further assume, that these graphical issues happen now, when in earlier times the client just crashed (as it failed to allocate more memory). At the moment we are not seeing any easy solution for it, but we will continue to investigate it

Workarounds: a) Reduce your graphic settings
b) Restart your client, if you are starting getting problems

Btw: It might be a very good idea to reduce your anti-aliasing setting, if it is set to high. This setting was not working correctly in earlier earlier releases and it is fixed now, which also causes a significantly higher video memory usage

Please reply to this thread and / or write bugreports with further details, if you find / know anything, which might help us to improve (or even fix) this problem.

Thing is that im pretty sure its not out of memory. I was monitoring the memory usage and it only gets up to about 900. I got 2gb in vram and about 8gb on RAM. And the thing is it mostly happens only on one client not on the other when you have several open.

These random errors happen more often in Linux for me but they happen there aswell. I noticed that it happens more often if you have the client open for prolonged times.

For me the first sign is flashing shadows then something messes up like Torp Effecs or station texture
then on testserver using ship preview and doing screenshots i noticed that my fps would drop to 0 freeze then go up again, guessing it would be out of memory did not check my usage then. But the screenshots would never be good.

Same thing happens for me on linux, it starts out the same but then station environment is not loaded but few lights and ship. Then it gives me this

Sometimes it just freezes everything but the UI.

All this above needs a restart of the client. On linux i need a reboot to remove the colorstuff so im guessing there is some kind of memory leak there.

All this after cruciable 1.5 update if I remember correctly.
