New Autopilot System: For Capital Ships

Eve is in need of a new autopilot system, not for the regular ships, but for capital and super-capital ships.

Currently capital pilots have to rely on out of game programs (like Eve HQ or EVE Maps) to figure out routes & fuel needs. It is for this reason that I believe that a version of the autopilot program should be made to accommodate capital pilots, one that not only plots a route for the pilot, but shows fuel consumption as well. A program like this would probably have to have a tab of its own so you can apply filters just like the regular autopilot system. At the same time this program would have to be tied into your assets, that way the pilot would not have to be in the ship to calculate from within the ship. A simple list that shows the ships in your assets & their location that are jump capable that could be selected would probably work, though of course Super-Capitals would be exempt from this as they cannot dock.

The key points that the jump program would need would be:

*Show route through systems for jump drive capable ships
- Lowsec/nullsec only, but able to calculate from highsec for jump freighters.
- Would connect systems along route, but by jump lines, not stargates.
*Show fuel consumption per jump, maybe a "total fuel used" at the last system.
*Show a "Sphere of influence" at each jump point to easily show other systems in range.
*Have a tab dedicated to selecting ships in assets that are jump capable.
*Have the ability to remotely make jump routes from out of the jump capable ship.
*Have the ability to Drag and move your jump route to selected systems instead of right-clicking (could be applied to regular AP as well)

Having the ability to plot a route using an in game program would only simplify things for capital pilots. Being able to see in game stats (like ships destroyed in system) along the route would allow for adjustments that could be easily seen.

All in all, I believe that an altered program of the current autopilot system that is exclusive to jump drive capable ships would have nothing but benefits for the pilots that fly capital ships.

This would be so handy instead of having to switch screens to use dotlan, flipping screens back in forth just to check jumps etc. There isn't really a reason that the guys with the (generally) less expensive sub cap ships get a working autopilot tab, and carriers get stuck in the mud with an autopilot setup that tells them to warp to the gate.. that's just silly lol, +1 for a new cap autopilot tab.

p.s. I'm not saying I want to actually autopilot a capital, this would also be stupid silly, just that is where you find the shortest route etc...

Get ready for a revelation here. You can open Dotlan ... in Eve!

Seriously though, I don't think this is something worth spending developer time on. I have a feeling that it'd be implemented halfway and end up worse than Dotlan anyways.

ccp can't even figure out how long a lightyear is (many apps erroneously used the actual distance of a lightyear and were off in edge cases) so lets not rely on them for anything

*opens the map and plots course IN the EvE map client for moving a carrier...*

That was easy.
