Extrinsic Damage Amplifier imbalance

Here I sit, a very very competent carrier pilot, and im always left wondering, why does ccp half-*ss stuff.

The new drone damage module will be a nice addition, a little recognition of drones as a primary offensive group. But, it only effect "drones" and not fighters/fighter bombers.

Now i look into dread and titan fits on battleclinic, since im not a dread of titan pilot. They get to use weapon upgrades in conjunction with their capital sized turrets/launchers. So i ask, why cant a carrier or super carrier use there new weapon upgrade with their capital class weapon, the fighter/fighter bomber.

The sentry carrier will be cool for a little while, and i estimate you will be able to punch out around 1450 dps with a little set up. But still, it seems imbalanced, its completely useless for a mom, and a niche module for the sentry carrier enthusiast.

Tell me this, whens the last time a pheonix or a leviathan went trolling around without some version of a ballistic control unit on it.

In the end this is on par with the removal of drone poo (which directly effects me, and I support) with out giving them standard officer/hauler spawns or any loot table for that matter. Dont get me started on how useless sentient spawns are.

Some developers are good at some things, and bad at other things. CCP has many strengths, but its primary weakness is this exact propensity to half-donkey things that you mention. The company has a long and glorious history of exactly that. I mean, think back just one year and remember the total unadulterated train wreck that was Incarna? Need I say more? This is more of the same, albeit on a smaller scale.

Look on the bright side though - drones have been treated as a red-headed step-child for years. No damage implants, only one damage rig only affecting one drone type, horrible drone UI, and now this brilliant module? At least they're consistent.

EDIT: Don't know if you've seen it, but there's a thread on the test server forum discussing it. Some folks did tons of different fits and analyzed it to death. The conclusion? Aside from Rattlesnake, pretty much any other ship is better off with pretty much any other mod. As one fellow put it, it's the equivalent of Armageddon equipping projectiles instead of lasers and doing better DPS that way. Still, they still have a week to make the module less of a joke, though I'm not exactly holding my breath any more.

That module is totally disappointing. It's worse than the SDA rig and uses more CPU (at least with Drones Rigging IV).

CCP should add more NPC 0.0 space to open it up and liven things up: the Stepping Stones project.

I agree that the drone damage mod sucks but carriers are logistics ships, their dps is an ancillary function.

At least it's not something forced on us like walking in stations, so we can't complain too much. Worst thing we get is a useless mod this time, I say their improving.

Guys, post in the testserver feedback thread about it. It's useless to complain here, because every 30 minutes sb starts a new thread about the EDA...

We also did not get an answer, why it's dmg mod is 15% and not 21% like any other lowslot dmg-mod. (rof change isn't possible on drones btw)

…you mean just like pretty much all other drone mods and skills? Shocking.

There are folks out there, not I, that believe in the sentry ratting fit. claiming travel time wrecks fighter paper damage application. This may become true when a sentry carrier will now be able to dish out 1450 damage. As for the logistic role, I agree, that is an excellent application of the carrier, however, it is a great ratting platform, also, sov warfare platform.

The reason they will not let it modify fighters is because ith the do it will throw the whole capital ship balance out of whack again, this is the reason the other modules ot not affect fighters, because they balanced the ships abilities without the mods so allowing them to affect fighters is just asking for trouble, lastest SISI I believe puts the Extrinsic at 19% buff, your ratting carrier will feel buffed enough do not worry.
