This is the perfect metaphor.

Imagine you live in the US and you are in your car driving to work. Suddenly a central-american terrorist shows up holding a disposable rocket launcher and blows up your car. You wake up in the hospital late for work and without a car, meanwhile the terrorist wakes up in central america and gets a bounty for killing an american, which is more than enough money to buy another rocket launcher, plus he gets to keep whatever money was in the americans wallet. Is it the American's fault for driving a car instead of an APC (armored personnel carrier)?

Here's another perfect metaphor.

You're playing Quake, in an online deathmatch. Someone shoots you in the head with a railgun. You respawn, spot them, fire a few shots and miss, and they rail you again. You respawn and they rail you again.

You then go to Id's forums and cry that you were just trying to enjoy a game of Quake and a griefer kept shooting you. You then tell Id that if they ever want to be a successful games developer they're going to have to change Quake so you are free to run around in a deathmatch without griefers being able to shoot you.

(feel free to replace "Quake" and "Id" with whatever FPS the cool kids play these days, I know I'm showing my age).

But well posted - I'm sure CCP will be delighted to hear what they've been doing wrong all these years. After nine years of constant growth, they will definitely want to know what they must do if they ever want EVE to grow.

Quake is PURE PvP, it has NO other aspects. You can't do anything in Quake EXCEPT PvP (or PvBOT)

Eve is pure PVP.

Every single thing you do feeds into that. Including PVE and mining. It is deliberately that way, or the missions would be instanced and you wouldn't be able to fire in highsec.

So, what is your point?

if goonswarm is only 2.5% of the player base, then why does CCP call "Burn Jita" a "playerbase-driven event"

Is CCP saying, "we are going to do whatever the loudest 2% tell us to do?"

This sounds a lot like the 1%-ers in the real world telling the other 99% what to do. But unlike the real world, CCP really does have god-like powers, they could easily give concord ships insta-warp ability and stop highsec ganking in an instant, but they choose not to, because they think it's what the players want.

No, it's not up to CCP.

It's up to the other 98% of the playerbase to stop them.

You don't seem to understand what a sandbox game is.

If i see someone who isn't in my corp/alliance being attacked by a suicide ganker, and I try to help them by killing the ganker, the police come after ME instead. the only way that the 98% of other players could fight back is if they all joined the same alliance.

CCP made the game and CCP makes the rules. The game allows ganking because CCP WANTS ganking to happen, simple as that. If CCP really wants people to join to join a corp, they should find some other way besides making the solo experience suck balls

Well if the rules of engagement in highsec are your problem, leave highsec.

Stop hindering yourself and then claiming someone else is.

leave highsec and go where? A different game? how does driving players away and reducing subscriptions make the game better?

If you really want to learn more about this game i suggest you start visiting the wiki or reading around the forums.

You know eve has mainly 3 type of space: high sec, low sec and null sec.

You could try to learn a bit about the latter 2.

Or maybe you could stop poasting and simply gtfo forever?
If you didnt notice nobody wants you here.

I hear highsec is just one of 4 space security regions in New Eden.

Perhaps look into that.

I mean quite literally: if your point is "security" in New Eden doesn't accurately reflect real life, then you want to look at areas of space where it does.

Nullsec pretty accurately models army held territory in developing nations and WH is often made akin to the Wild West.

Go to low/null, make friends, learn to fight, protect each other, kill that gank ship before it kills you.

Oh wait, "make friends", "learn to fight", "work with others". Not exactly conducive to AFK mining.

Actually, my rant was originally inspired BY the forums, and the organized abuse by goonswarm

why would I want to go to low sec when it just means waking up in a clone within 5 minutes? if I wanted to keep buying the same ship over and over again there is a self-destruct option, I don't need to fly to 0.4 space for that

You only think lowsec is like that because you've never been.

Same as the rest of the carebear population, all sat in highsec looking at the lowsec gates trembling, when 9/10 times all that is on the other side is empty space.

EDIT: also, as pointed out again and again - the idea of EvE is to form corps and not to do it alone. Weirdly, you don't tend to die over and over when this happens. See: the very people you are complaining about.

You are literally moaning that someone is better at the game than you.

I'm moaning that someone is shoving their superiority in my face

I have been to lowsec. the 5 minute thing was my personal experience, two weeks into the game. some jackass decided to pod me, in my destroyer, just for the lulz

Everything i read in the wiki makes it sound like every gate and station in lowsec has a gate camp at it, the wiki itself makes lowsec sound more dangerous than I want to bother with

A civilized discussion in which you out-of-hand refute what people with more experience than you point out, suggest or otherwise bring up.

Sounds like you've already made up your mind on your stance and are just trying to prove yourself right.

You're one of the most clueless person i've ever seen around here, i think you're not eve trolling!

I'll try to be helpful: dont do everything alone!
Eve is (pay attention) a: massively-MULTIPLAYER PVP-oriented player driven game.

This mean to actually play the game as it was meant to be played you need to: work with others, to kill others, preferably in large numbers.

Of course you can play in any way you want, inside the rules, but that is what this game is about so stop whining to get it changed and adapt.

Or maybe try some other game.

Pods have insta warp, only place you should lose one is in null if your caught in a bubble. If your reaction time sucks that bad then multiplayer games aren't for you.

I recall one night in a nightclub called the matrix, there I was... Mother of god there I am! Holy f**k.

Damn wait a minute.

I just read the title again: antisocial?

Null sec (the place you're most scared of) is one of the most safe places around, and you can get there ONLY by joining and helping a large group of people.

The only antisocial part of the game is high sec and people like you.

"Player-base driven" does not equate to " Events that eeeeeveryone wants to do!"

A player-base driven event is an event that the devs or game mechanics had no role in making happen. Burn Jita and Hulkageddon are both created solely by players of EVE, with no dev or game mechanic influence, making them player-driven events.

Making Concord god-like completely goes against the idea of a sandbox MMO. Concord is there to make it difficult to repeatedly grief someone...It's not there to make mining completely safe or anything similar. As a high-sec carebear myself, I have to say that making Concord god-like would make the game very dull in hi-sec. Things like Hulkageddon could never happen...But they should! It's not a sandbox when you're in a prison.

If you want an MMO where your precious e-money is safe, go to one of the themepark MMOs you obviously love. I hear WoW has tons of players like you?
