This discussion has been up several times.

Malet erhhhh faceless joe buys 50% of the tickets.
Either he loses 12,5bn, or wins 10bn (or how much Darknesss buys the nyx back for)

I can't see how it puts him at an unfair advantage.
The guy with 1 ticket have won several times in the history.

Wow,

Three in a row and in one day for Faceless Joe. I don't want to make a big fuss, but would this not make for a good argument that there should be a cap on tickets bought?

I love entering your lotteries Darknesss, but this makes me not want too anymore.

Sorry that you feel that way matey.

I have thought long and hard about limiting tickets, however it makes literally no sense to do so from any perspective.

It does not increase anyone elses odds of winning and it has the potential to drag lotteries out for very long periods of time, some peoples supercarrier lotteries have taken weeks to sell out in the past, the fact is, there are not enough lottery players to limit ticket sales.

Apologies for this but I cannot please everyone and this is the most logical way to run them.

Kind regards,
Dark

Lol joe you are the man xD Also for the person whining a couple posts above, Joe spent a lot of isk on all 3 of those and risked getting nothing in return. If you don't like randomness then quit playing, stop taking probability personally.

I am not whining, just bringing up a point, I know a lot of the others are thinking that can not put in 12.5 bil for a lottery.

I usually put in 100 mil for 10 tickets in all of Darknesss' lotteries I can. I put in 200 mil this morning before work in the first one DARK150.

I am at work, so miss the other two, DARK151 & DARK152. So technically, I could have lost 300 mil today for three lotteries.

When I get home today, I am going to send Faceless Joe, 100 mil just on principal, because that is what I would have lost.

I will probably keep playing, because I am addicted & need to go to EVE-Online Gamblers Anonymous.

Just wishing I have 12.5 bil isk to toss around out of the hundreds of billions Faceless or Malet already has.

Maybe you should just stop doing lotteries for a while and then you will have isk saved up to do more lotteries later, and have a higher chance of winning by putting in more isk, like Joe did Smile Then you would have nothing to whine about Pirate

Limiting tickets would be a bad idea, but saying, "hey, you can only win one lottery a week" would be plenty fair. It would give more people chances to win, and not severely limit anybody except for guys like Joe who are obviously using these lotteries as a way to make money. Because I do agree with the sentiment that one guy winning 3 in a row is going to scare off people from purchasing tickets. It makes it looked rigged no matter how much transparency there is.

so if I use 30 dif alts to buy tickets, it's ok? This changes nothing. Whether or not someone buys 2,000 tickets or 2,000 people buy 1 ticket each, your odds are the same. The tickets are given out semi-randomly and the dice roll is random. I don't see the problem.

I've won quite a few of these types of lottos... Some of them I won with as few as 250m in tickets, some I lost with as much as 5b. It sucks to lose, but I don't think it's unfair (except when it's malet, that cheater). That's why it's called gambling.

You do realise that you have the same %-odds of winning right?
Even if you bought 10 shares and faceless bought every other ticket aval. Your odds are the exact same as if 200 eve players bought the rest of the tickets. You would still sit with the same amount and therfor the same %-chance of winning.
It's a game of pure luck. Some times some random guy buying 5 tickets wins over those that bought 1000 tickets.

E[aX] = a*E[X]

some people in this thread seem to have a hard time understanding this...

Buying more than one ticket in a lottery doesn't give you any advantage - the expected value of each ticket is always the same (and always negative).
Buy one ticket in each of a hundred (identical) lotteries or a hundred tickets in one lottery, only the variance changes but not your expected loss.
